Spare yourself the disappointment.

There are so many complaints about large corporations that have perverted the purity of volunteering.

They tell you about the good you're going to be doing, and you pay up and pack up beaming with excitement.

If you don't talk to the locals you will never know that unqualified volunteers pass through so often doing the same things that it's now destroying the community.

If that sounds very specific, it's because we've got a story to share with you. Stay tuned.

Children struggle to attend school and poor nutrition limits students' success. Beyond that, the elderly struggle to get the healthcare they need.

Jamaican International Projects (JIP) is by volunteers for volunteers.

After volunteering with other volunteers and hearing about their poor experiences, Jomo Barnett was moved to create JIP.

Jamaica International Projects was born in answer to volunteers' cries for more impactful, sustainable, and meaningful projects.

Volunteers detested joining projects only to find they were made up to accommodate volunteers at the expense of the community.

Jamaica International Projects connects you with Jamaican organizations that have requested volunteer assistance.

While the world looks toward getting back to normal life (or as close to normal as possible), as volunteers, we all have a duty to help our friends, family, and even strangers in any way that we can. It may be a donation of cash or kind, a nice gesture of bringing someone who is disabled or less fortunate some supplies, or even something as simple as an encouraging text or phone call. Whatever kind deed you can do in these trying times is appreciated, and may give someone much needed encouragement and inspiration to not only carry on but to encourage others as well.

While I always try and avoid telling others how to live or what they should or shouldn't do, I am humbly asking anyone reading this to reach out in any way you can to let the people in your life know they are not alone. Have a great day!
