📸 Your destination: 700 steps up the mountain!

Immerse yourself in the mysteries of the past at this remarkable site, believed to have been a location for religious ceremonies and rituals. Some say it was dedicated to the Nabatean God Dushara, where animal sacrifices took place. 🐐💧

Witness the circular stone altar and carved channel for draining down the blood, while the priest cleansed his hands in the rock-cut cistern. The High Altar, just a few feet away, was where the sacrifices were burned and offered. A large platform awaited commoners to observe and partake in the ceremonies. 🌄🙏🏼

The views from this high place are simply breathtaking, revealing the entire valley of Petra. 🌍🔥

Received many questions about which trail to take when exploring the Rose Red City of Petra. Here are my top three recommendations:

1- Khubtha Trail (Hard): Begin by following the main trail up to the theater, then continue up the staircase to the Urn Tomb. From this vantage point on the adjacent mountain, you can enjoy a breathtaking bird's-eye view of the stunning treasury.
2- Back Door Way Trail (Moderate): This trail offers a different perspective by veering off the main track. Start by taking a back road route to reach Ad-Deir, also known as the Monastery. Instead of climbing up, you'll descend down steps to the main area of Petra. Along the way, immerse yourself in the beautiful landscape and appreciate the mountain views overlooking Wadi Araba.
3- High Place of Sacrifice Trail (Hard): Commencing near the theatre necropolis, this trail leads you to the High Place of Sacrifice. It stands as one of the highest easily accessible points in Petra, perched on cliffs that plunge almost sheerly 170 meters to the Wadi Musa below. Prepare for an awe-inspiring experience at this location.
