Amman, the capital of Jordan is a fascinating city of contrasts- a unique blend of old and new, ideally situated on a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley. It is the most important city in Jordan, and it is characterized as a young city compared to its neighbors from the older cities such as Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad and Istanbul.

By the beginning of the Iron Age Amman had become the Capital of the Ammonites, referred to in the bible, and was called Rabbath Amman. Many civilizations has been settled in Amman such as Neolithic, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, Umayyad and Ottoman, which gives me Amman the fragrant of civilization, history, and present.

Archaeological monuments may be less, but there are other wonderful alternatives to see within the city. The city of Amman divided into two parts, an elegant part in the west, where the entrances decorate leafy trees, cafes and shopping malls, and the eastern part is characterized as more popular and conservative, the design of buildings and shops take the traditional character.

As the cultural, political and commercial capital of Jordan, it is not surprising that it is full of life and no end to its fun. Today, the city flourishes as one of the most liberal Arab capitals, attracting many travelers. The hallmark of this city is that it has a great mix between the past and present, where the High buildings and the crowded streets in the center of the city, but in the midst of this life, an old castle hiding dated to the Neolithic and a Roman theater where the various sessions of the song take place, but for those who are looking for a real life experience, they should go to the downtown, where they find the delicacies oriental cuisine and desserts, the most famous of which are the Nabulsian Cenafah. They can bargain with the spices, perfumes and jewelry vendors, and visit one of the old coffee shops to enjoy oriental music and hubble-bubble, but at the end of the day you should have to go to one of the Turkish baths to relax from your busy day.

As-Salt is about 28 km N/W of Amman. The name As-Salt comes from the Latin origin “Saltus” meaning the Valley of Trees or “Thick Forest”. It was the regional capital during the Byzantine era and the capital of the important province of Al-Balqa during the Islamic period.

In the late 19th century, Salt became an important commercial center and went through a period of rapid expansion. Many buildings from this period survive to the present day. They were built in an architecturally elegant style, using attractive honey-colored local stone wrought-iron balconies.

Right after World War I, the town was the site from which Herbert Samuel, British High Commissioner for Palestine and Trans-Jordan, chose to make his announcement that the British favored self-government for Jordan (which was finally granted in 1921).

You can have a nice afternoon wandering around, drinking coffee at a local coffee shop, and visiting sites such as Share’ al-Hammam, the Museum of Antiquities of As-Salt, the handicrafts shops, the Latin Church Complex, the shrine of Prophet Ayuob (Biblical Job) and the shrine of Joshua. Future plans are to create a pedestrian mall that links historic buildings, handicrafts shops and other points of interest in the center of Salt.

Nearby, there is Wadi Shuayb, famed for its fertile soil and the quality of its fruits and vegetables. It is believed to be the burial place of Prophet Shuayb (Jethro; Moses’ father in-law).

Jerash is one of the world’s best-preserved provincial Greco-Roman provincial cities. The Roman city occupies the second place in terms of the tourist importance, heritage and historical origins of the Jordanian cities after Petra; it was hidden under the sand for centuries until it was excavated for its existence and discovered. It has streets, temples, columns, hills and theaters, as well as magnificent gates and towers dated back 6,500 years ago. Certainly when you are traveling in Jordan, you will not regret to visit the old city of Jerash.

This city was founded in 2000 BC and therefore has many impressive monuments, even named "the Thousand Columns City". Jerash is 2000-year-old Greco-Roman ruins and one of the most preserved cities of Decapolis, a union of 10 Greco-Roman cities, when the Emperor Hadrian visited this city in 129 AD. It was filled with the population, where the people built the Victory Arc on the honor of his visit, which still holds up to this day. Who will visit this city, he will see by himself the ingenuity of Roman civilization and the persistence of its effects to this date, such as the Southern Gate or Hadrian's Arch, the Nymphs Trail, the Columns Street or the Cardo, the Southern Theater, the Artemis Temple, the Roman Hippodrome (Circus), the Symposium Square and the Cathedral with the stone gate, the two basins of Jerash, Al Hamidi Mosque and the Umayyad Mosque.

The horse racing arena “This sport field” which once expanded to 15,000 people and do not forget the Theater, which has brilliant stereo system in the middle, also there is a large square between an axis connecting the north and south of Jerash and a street lined with columns by original stones, with traces of old war carriages and shrines filled with ancient fountains, that are shaped like dolphins and various temples.

Um Qais, once known as Gadara in ancient times, is a place steeped in history and biblical significance. It was one of the illustrious ten cities of the Greco-Roman Decapolis confederation, renowned not only for its strategic location but also for its cultural vibrancy. This ancient city was a hub of classical poets and philosophers, including Theodorus, the founder of a rhetorical school in Rome.

One of the most famous events associated with Um Qais is the biblical miracle of the Gadarene swine. According to the Gospel of Matthew (8:28-34), it was here that Jesus cast out demons from two men into a herd of swine. This powerful moment in biblical history adds to the mystique of Um Qais.

Perched dramatically on a ridge, Um Qais offers an awe-inspiring vantage point, providing breathtaking views of the Jordan Valley, the Golan Heights, and the serene Sea of Galilee (Lake Tiberias). The black-basalt Roman city, with its colonnade terrace and ancient streets, paints a vivid picture of its glorious past. Two well-preserved theaters bear witness to the city's cultural significance.

Adding to the historical tapestry of Um Qais is the remnants of a late 19th-century Ottoman village, offering a glimpse into the more recent past of this remarkable site.

After a day of exploring the rich history and stunning vistas of Um Qais, visitors can unwind on the terrace of a fine restaurant. Here, you can savor a delicious meal while gazing out over the landscapes of three countries, a truly unique and mesmerizing experience.
