We had a big earthquake this morning didn’t we? There was no significant damage in Ichinoseki City, and we hope that everyone is ok. This morning’s quake also serves as a reminder to stay prepared and think about what to do when earthquakes occur.
Rock on Iwate (https://www.facebook.com/pref.iwate.pr) has again released information in English regarding what to do in an earthquake, what to prepare for disasters and so on, so please take a look.

Some news from yesterday. Nathan, Internationalization Coordinator for Ichinoseki City, was on FM ASMO radio from 3pm for about 20 minutes and talked about Ichinoseki’s work on the ILC project. He also did a role play in English with radio personality Ms Tamami Aoki, affectionately known as Tama-chan. The content of the role play is below.

The ILC Promotion Division plans to put more role plays and other information in English on its website, so stay tuned.

Staff: Yes, I have coffee and green tea.
Mike: Hmm, I’ll take a coffee, please.

Staff: It’s 250 yen.

Sharing a post from last month by the Public Relations and Communications Division of the Iwate Prefectural Government. The purple wisteria at Geibikei are blooming earlier this year. Beautiful at this time and at any time of the year, Geibikei is one place where ILC researchers from abroad have stopped to relax in their visits to the Kitakami candidate site.
岩手県の広聴広報課の英語版のページの投稿をシェアさせていただきます。今年は猊鼻渓での藤の花が早めに咲いています。他の季節も美しい猊鼻渓はILCの外国人研究者が北上サイトの視察に来た際にこちらで休憩されたことがあります。

I was thinking you might be weary of all of these cherry blossom photos, so here's some purple wisteria blooming last year in Geibikei Gorge in Ichinoseki! The wisteria blooms towards the end of May every year, which is a great time to visit Iwate. It's warm, but there's still a cool breeze in the air that feels very comfortable. You can ride a small boat up the Geibikei Gorge to enjoy the spring weather, and even throw a special stone in the water for good luck.

Geibikei is open year-round, but I hear wisteria season is the best!

Staff from Ichinoseki’s ILC Promotion Division took part in running the ILC booth set up by Iwate Prefecture at the Niconico “Chokaigi” fan event held at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Chiba Prefecture last weekend.
今月２５、２６日に千葉県の幕張メッセ国際展示場で開催された「ニコニコ超会議２０１５」にてILC推進課の職員が岩手県が出展したブースでPR活動に参加しました。
The booth was set up to further awareness in the Tokyo area of the proposed International Linear Collider project, promote tourism to Iwate prefecture, gather information by surveys, and so on. An actual superconducting radio frequency cavity which would be used in the ILC was also on display.
岩手県による出展は首都圏におけるILCの情報発信等を行うためのもので、観光パンフの配布やアンケートの実施も行われました。ILCの部品の一つである「超伝道加速空洞」の実物も展示されました。
Event organizer and popular video-sharing website Niconico said more than 150,000 people attended the two-day event and nearly eight million people watched online.
主催者である人気サイト「ニコニコ動画」によると、２日間にわたって来場者数は１５万人以上、ネット来場者数は約８００万人だったそうです。

Public relations staff from particle physics research centers around the world came to Ichinoseki as part of their visit to the Kitakami Highlands ILC candidate site on Thursday and Friday last week, and the news of which was published in the Iwate Nichinichi and Iwate Nippo newspapers.

A special event was held in Tokyo last Wednesday - the ILC Tokyo Symposium. Held at the University of Tokyo’s Ito International Hall, it was a full house filled with enthusiasm, and at which the Tokyo Statement, “Towards the realisation of the International Linear Collider”, was issued.
4月22日(水)、ILCのスペシャルイベントが東京で開催されました。 会場となった東京大学伊藤謝恩ホールには、定員を超える参加があり活気にあふれたシンポジウムとなりました。「国際リニアコライダーの実現を目指して」と題したILC東京宣言を確認しました。

The cherry blossoms on the banks of Iwai River, which flows through Ichinoseki’s city center, are in full bloom and until tomorrow they are lit up at night from 6 to 9pm. On Sunday, the Cherry Road Festival will be held at Kasen Park, beside the line of cherry trees.
These trees are scheduled to be cut this year due to reinforcement work on the banks, and so this spring will be the last time to see the blossoms there. The full-bloom blossoms are also doing their best to support bringing the ILC to Tohoku.
一関市の市街地を流れる磐井川堤防の桜が今、満開です！夜は、桜をライトアップ中です。ライトアップは18日まで午後６時から９時に点灯されています。
19日には桜並木のそばの河川公園においてチェリーロードまつりが開催されます。
磐井川堤防の桜は、堤防改修事業のため年内に伐採予定のため、今シーズンが最後です。満開の桜が、ILCの東北誘致実現を一生懸命応援してくれています。

Here are a few pictures taken at the Tohoku ILC Promotion Council’s annual general meeting held on Monday at the Westin Hotel in Sendai. All submitted bills were approved, after which Council Chairman and Tohoku University President, Dr. Susumu Satomi, expressed his determination to make the ILC a reality, as did others in attendance.
Professor Yuji Nonagase, of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Yamagata University, then gave a seminar titled “Using the ILC to create high-tech clusters.”
Ichinoseki City will continue various efforts in collaboration with the Tohoku ILC Promotion Council and other ILC-related organizations to bring the ILC to Tohoku.
４月１３日、東北ＩＬＣ推進協議会総会がウェスティンホテル仙台において開催されました。
総会では、提案された全議案が承認され、その後東北ＩＬＣ推進協議会の代表を務める東北大学里見総長ほかの皆様によるＩＬＣ誘致に向けた決意が述べられました。
講演会では、山形大学大学院　理工学研究科　野長瀬祐二教授が「ＩＬＣを契機としたハイテク・クラスターの創出」と題し講演しました。
市では東北へのＩＬＣ誘致実現に向け、東北ＩＬＣ推進協議会や関係機関と連携し、さまざまな活動を行ってまいります。

Good morning! Along with many other places in Ichinoseki, the cherry blossoms in front of the City Office have also bloomed. It's overcast this morning, but here are a few photos of the blossoms taken yesterday under a beautiful blue sky.
The Tohoku ILC Promotion Council is holding its annual general meeting in Sendai today, about which we will post again later.
おはようございます。市内のあちらこちらで桜が咲いてきましたね。一関市役所前の桜も綺麗に咲いてきています。今朝は曇りですが、昨日青空の下で撮ったものをお届けします。

An article was published in today’s Iwate Nichinichi newspaper regarding the appointment of Nathan Hill as Internationalization Coordinator for Ichinoseki City, who began working in this International Linear Collider (ILC) Promotion Division at the Ichinoseki City Office on April 1.
In addition to ILC-related PR work, Nathan will be involved in the city’s internationalization and international relations.
From Perth in Western Australia, Nathan spent the last two years working as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in Ichinoseki.

国際リニアコライダー(ILC)は、21世紀の素粒子物理の発展のカギを握る次世代の実験施設です。ILC建設の最有力候補地は日本です。現在、文部科学省が設置した有識者会議で日本への誘致が本格的に議論されています。

一関市では、ILCについて具体的なイメージを持っていただき、ILCの東北実現に向けた機運の醸成を図るため、
各種イベント等で展示する移動式のILCジオラマを作製しました。

大きさは、幅170cm、奥行き68ｃｍ、高さ200cmで、
ワンボックスの軽自動車に積載可能な組立式となっています。
（一ノ関駅新幹線コンコース内に設置しているジオラマより一回り小さいです。）

本ジオラマを３月17日（火）、ベリーノホテル一関で開催される
国連防災世界会議「文化財と防災」シンポジウム会場に展示します。
シンポジウムへの参加は事前申込が必要ですが、
展示コーナーは、どなたでも自由にご覧になれますので、多くの皆さんのご来場をお待ちしております。

本日(3/2)開催された、早稲田大学理工学術院主催の「第11回未来エネルギーフォーラム ILC計画のもたらすもの」に、勝部市長とILC推進室職員が出席しました。定員の300人に近い、大勢の方がおいでになっていました。
二部構成で行われ、第一部では、日本創成会議座長の増田寛也氏、東京大学の駒宮幸男教授などがILCの地域創生の観点からのお話やILCの科学的、社会的意義についてのお話を頂きました。
第二部では、加速器関連技術の現在の状況と応用例について、各メーカー企業から報告がありました。
