Wilderness First Aid 'WFA' Trainings are open!

2 Locations- Myoko, Niigata June 7-8th and Gotemba, Shizuoka June 16-17th
This course is great for the adventurers to get a base level of outdoor wilderness first aid skills & those who are venturing into a professional support field in the outdoors. Also a great level of first aid for young adventurers and school students!

The introductory 2 day (16-20 hrs) course will run through all critical basic first aid and life support in case of emergencies in remote areas. Training participants to learn the skills to manage an emergency situation from patient assessment, treatment, stabilisation and monitoring through to evacuating.

Just when you thought Winter was over – The Time To Tour Tateyama is coming!
⛷🏂❄
If you're not familiar with Tateyama, on the border of Nagano and Toyama – it is the ultimate jewel of Japan's alpine ski touring. Buried in snow until Mid-April, Tateyama opens access from Kurobe Dam to it's 3000m peaks and skiers can typically expect an entire month of touring! Conditions range from 1m dumps of fresh POW to seasonal steep spring skiing.

SO – APRIL 15-18 / April 21-24 : Put these dates in your diary for you and your friends – Guided tour group bookings including onsen lodging and meals open from March 18th 2025 through Japan Outdoor Institute!

🩷🧡❤⛷🏂This week in Hakuba we've welcomed Spring & Celebrated our 3rd International Women's Day Weekend AST1 Training & Touring in support of B4BC (Boarding for Breast Cancer Japan). 🏂⛷❤🧡💛🩷

Joined by a great, motivated group keen to learn and advance their skills on the snow and avalanche awareness in amazing blue bird conditions. Whilst raising awareness and donations for a good cause!

JOI welcomes industry businesses, organisations and schools to book in advance special trainings. Schedule winter training & courses AST1, AST2, Backcountry Intro, mountaineering, Wilderness first aid and more. ⛷🏂❄

We were stoked to have the team out for AST1+ training and tour this week > dropped some knowledge, gained some skills and had some fresh powder turns with Tao & Trent!

With conditions the way they are, you can never have enough training and knowledge! We recommend for groups to enquire and book a season in advance to ensure we can cater for you amidst the demand.

It's been great to see so many new faces and awareness on the need to obtain the first step in avalanche & snow safety with groups and individuals getting out and taking their AST1 courses in Hakuba, Myoko, Nozawa, Yuzawa, Madarao and more!

We are now getting well in to the winter season now and already with a month of delivering skills & knowledge on snow and avalanche safety through our introductory - but in depth AST1+ hybrid courses.

Presenting the bulk of theory training in online sessions and self study > which maximises our 2 days in-person to extend this knowledge into practical skills on the snow. In addition providing a more realistic and in deeper introduction to trip planning and group dynamics for our dedicated touring day.

Here's some highlights up until now! We are also aware that there is not enough of us providers out there for the current demand – which is a bitter sweet pill, we hope to open more courses towards the end winter and until then beckon everyone to please stay safe, make good decisions and not travel outside of your experience.
