After climbing Fuji San富士山 3776 m /12388 ft. three years ago Ira was up to the challenge of summiting the second and the forth tallest mountains in Japan. Kitadake 3192 m北岳 / 10,472 and Ainodake 318間ノ岳9 m / 10,462 ft.

We meet at his place in Tokyo, a bit of last minute shopping and we ae on the train to Kofu station, where we will spend the night (2 hours sleep) to catch the first bus to Hirogawara sanso the gateway to Kitadake and beyond at 4:30 am.

Taisenzan (大船山) belongs to the larger volcanic Kuju massif (九重山） in the center of the Japanese island Kyushu. Beside its neighbor summits in the massif of Nakadake (中岳) (1791m) and Kuju-san (久住山) (1787m) it is Kyushus third highest peak. The Kuju mountain area belongs to the larger Kuju-A*o National Park protecting the two active volcanoes of the same name which are located in Oita prefecture.
