Last year, I also introduced the night visit to Myoken-ji Temple. Despite being located in the middle of Kyoto city, it's not crowded, allowing you to leisurely enjoy beautiful gardens and autumn leaves. What's even more amazing is that you're permitted to enter almost all halls and rooms, including the main hall, giving you the opportunity to meditate in your favorite spot.

This, I believe, exemplifies the ideal way a temple should be, serving as a sanctuary for people's hearts.

Friends!

I am going to make a Ninen Mairi (二年参り) on New Year's Eve.

Ninen Mairi is the worship style of sounding the temple bell at a Buddhist temple on New Year's Eve, and then, visiting a Shinto shrine for the first worship of the year.

JOYA NO KANÉ / 除夜の鐘 / WATCH NIGHT BELL
In Buddhism, the sound of temple bells is believed to have the power to purify a person's soul.

At Hyakumanben Chionji (百万遍智恩寺) Temple, which we will be visiting, attendances to the midnight service are offered the opportunity to sound the purifying bell, and allowing them to experience this ancient ritual.

HATSUMIDÉ / 初詣 /
After the souls have been purified, we moves to a Shinto shrine to perform the Hatsumodé. Hatsumodé' means the first worship of the year.

This time, we will visit the World Cultural Heritage Shimogamojinja (下鴨神社) Shrine, which is closely related to Chionji Temple and close to the location.

A huge bonfire and night stalls are planned at Shimogamojinja Shrine, where you can enjoy a solemn yet festive atmosphere.

Although it’s different from modern events such as countdowns, this is a good opportunity for those who want to experience traditional Japanese culture.

MIDOSUJI BOULEVARD NOCTURNE SWAGGER!!

On the coming Saturday, 17 December, my friends and I will go to enjoy the Midosuji Boulevard Illuminations in Osaka.

We will meet at Kyoto Station and travel about 50 minutes by trains to the site. We will visit Osaka's most famous location, Dotonbori, before taking a 3.5 km walk through the Guinness World Record giant illumination.
