Summer in Kyoto is hot and humid. How about a day trip to the mountainous area to breathe fresh air and to cool down? Kibune, located in the north of Kyoto City, is used as a retreat spot to escape the summer heat.
During May to September, the restaurants in Kibune offer a charming and seasonal dinning style known as “Kawadoko” for visitors to enjoy seasonal delicacies in a cool and relaxing atmosphere. Kawadoko, which literally means “floor on top of a river” is a special and seasonal way of dining to escape the summer heat and is also one of the summer charms of Kyoto.
A patio-like tatami floor is built above a river where guests can sit and dine on while listening to the sound of stream and enjoying the cool breeze. The typical cuisine for Kawadoko is “Kaiseki”, a traditional multi-course meal made by seasonal ingredients and local delicacies.

KAMOGAWA ODORI　

一年一度春季藝妓及舞妓京舞表演　「鴨川舞」🌸🌸🌸

The Geisha and Maiko of Kyoto are professional entertainers who appear at high-end dinners, private parties and special events. They are trained in various traditional Japanese arts, such as dance and music.

First held in 1872, the Kamogawa Odori is an annual dance performance by Geiko and Maiko (apprentice Geiko) of Ponto-Cho district. This is the last Kyoto’s spring geisha dances, held annually in May. The performance is composed of two parts: drama dance and a style of dance called odori emaki. Let’s enjoy wonderful spring colors and this unique traditional performing art!

If you pay a slightly more with the ticket, you can also participate in a tea ceremony before the dance hosted by a Maiko apprentice.

Kyoto is the heart of Japan’s geisha world. They are concentrated in five hanamachi (geisha districts) across the city. Each of the districts performs a large-scale dance for the public once a year, with four of them held in the spring season.
Kitano Odori is a dance show performed by Kamishichiken, the oldest geisha quarter in Kyoto. Let us enjoy the wonderful spring colors and this unique traditional performing art!

Wild Japanese monkeys live in "Jigokudani Monkey Park" in Nagano Prefecture, and here monkeys also enjoy hot springs. This is the only place in the world where wild monkeys enjoy hot springs.

Tour Details

1. This 1-day tour from Nagano accompanied by an English-speaking National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter visits a misobrewery to watch the miso production process in Nagano Prefecture, Japan’s leading miso-producing region; and Jigokudani Monkey Park, which is famous as a place where Japanese macaques soak in hot springs during the cold season.

2. Miso is a traditional food in Japan which has been sustaining the dietary life of the Japanese since ancient times. To watch how miso is made, this tour visits Shioya Jozo, a historical brewery established about 300 years ago as a salt merchant and began producing miso towards the end of the Edo period (1603-1868). 10 of the brewery’s buildings have been designated as some of Japan’sRegistered Tangible Cultural Properties, and to this day, the brewery continues to make miso and soy sauce.

Kabuki (歌舞伎, かぶき) is a classical form of Japanese theatre, mixing dramatic performance with traditional dance. Kabuki theatre is known for its heavily stylized performances, its glamorous, highly decorated costumes, and for the elaborate kumadori make-up worn by some of its performers.

The Parade of Gion Festival 2022 (OFUNE HOKO) 袛園祭後祭山鉾巡行 2022 (大船鉾) Let’s enjoy the procession of Floats (Parade)! Everyone was so exciting to welcome this spectacular float – Ofune Hoko float! The Fune Hoko Float in the former procession is regarded as the ship going to a battle while this Ofune Hoko float is the ship returning from the battle. The float was lost and had stopped joining the procession since the late 19 century. It has been revived since 2014! Gion festival is one of the biggest festivals in Japan with more 1,000 years history. The origin of the festival was to pray for an end to an epidemic.
