Obon (お盆) is an annual Buddhist event for commemorating one's ancestors, whose spirits are believed to temporarily return home in order to visit their relatives during Obon period.

Obon is observed mainly from August 13 to 16 in most areas of Japan. But the holiday week starts from Aug 9 to 18.

Everywhere is crowd and please make reservations for your accommodations and trains in advance!

If you are going to Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto Himeji, Hiroshima, Fukuoka on Nozomi trains, please make sure you have seat reservations in advance!

Kyoto is the heart of Japan’s geisha world. They are concentrated in five hanamachi (geisha districts) across the city. Each of the districts performs a large-scale dance for the public once a year, with four of them held in the spring season.
Kitano Odori is a dance show performed by Kamishichiken, the oldest geisha quarter in Kyoto. Let us enjoy the wonderful spring colors and this unique traditional performing art!
