The Ancient Japanese costume " Juni-hitoe" 👘
Juni-hitoe is one of the Japanese traditional costume,
which is older than Kimono, and it is the origin of Kimono❗
In Japanese, the word of Juni-hitoe is written Twelve Layers(十二単), but actually we do not wear twelve layers.
Juni (Twelve 十二) means "plenty" in Japanese✨
Some of noble women wore just two to three layers,
some of them wore more than twelve😳⁉️
One of the reason of wearing many layers,
we guess that noble women tried to look rich✨
Because, it was cost a lot to make a silk cloth at that time,
so only few noble women could dress up with many layers.
It is said that a certian noble woman, in Heian era, wore twenty layers⁉️
She might have wanted to show off...😅
These princesses were foreign tourists,
interested in Japanese ancient culture💕
We explain the history and meaning of Juni-hitoe.
They were so surprised at our culture,
but enjoyed this extraordinary experience✨
