* Three “Circle Japan” itineraries, sailing roundtrip from Yokohama

* A 14-day “Japan and South Korea Discovery” roundtrip from Yokohama. Kochi, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Hiroshima and Kobe, Japan; (Seoul, overnight), Busan and Jeju City (Cheju), South Korea.

* 13 or 14-day “Japan, South Korea and China” sailings.

* A 14-day “The Philippines, Taiwan and Japan” itinerary, from Hong Kong to Yokohama with calls in Manila, Boracay and Puerto Princesa, Philippines; Keelung (Taipei) and Kaohsiung, Taiwan; and Osaka, Naha and Ishigaki, Japan.

In Japan, Every year since 1983 a choir of 10,000 singers has gathered to sing the choral climax of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in December. Add to that the members of the orchestra, and you get a monumental performance. In Japan, Beethoven's Ninth has become associated with Christmas time, In shopping malls, in community centres, and in concert venues, there are 100s of performances of the Ninth. However, there is something quite magical about 10,000 voices singing in perfect harmony. The quality of the singing becomes more remarkable when you realise that most of the singers are amateurs. Applications to sing are oversubscribed, so it is a privilege to be selected.

One of Japan's prominent fishing ports and a frequent stop for foreign luxury cruise liners, the city of Sakaiminato on the Sea of Japan coast bolsters the local economy in a remote western region of the country.

Also thriving as a trading base after Japan opened up the country in the mid-19th century thanks to its relative proximity to the Korean Peninsula, the Tottori Prefecture city with a population of 33,000 is dubbed a "fishing town" for being a good natural port endowed by rich fishing banks in adjacent waters.

This has historically provided the solid foundation for the prosperity of the offshore fishing operation based in Sakaiminato, where efforts are now being made to keep aloft its coastal fishing -- the other main style of commercial fishing that has helped feed the city.

JOPA said MSC Cruises Japan received the award because the cruise line offered a wide variety of cruise packages and charter cruises throughout the year and contributed greatly to the Japanese cruise industry's efforts to promote the benefits of cruising to people of all ages.

JOPA said in a statement: "The number of passengers on MSC cruises around Japan, including charter cruises, exceeded 100,000.
