Have you heard? Costco in Okinawa?

Costco coming to Okinawa has been in planning/development since 2015. As of November 2022, the current plan was to open a Costco at this location in 2023 but per the article, it is pushed back to summer 2024.

Why the delay?
1. Unexploded ordance found that needs to be removed.
2. Traffic patterns to maximize most efficient flow of traffic need to be identified.
3. Additional planning occuring.

🎉🎉 Woohoo!!

Good news, Okinawa! The National weather center announced today that the rainy season (called “Tsuyu”/梅雨 in Japanese) has officially ended in Okinawa prefecture. This year’s rainy season has lasted 47 days and ended 1 day earlier than average, but 13 days earlier than last year. The weather center predicts that there will be cloudy days ahead this coming week, but more sunny days will be in the forecast afterward. ☀️

For those who don't know, regular unleaded is now WAY cheaper off-base here in Okinawa. This is pretty much unprecedented and just shows how AAFES takes advantage of us every chance they get. This link is a list of the cheapest gas prices in Okinawa (https://gogo.gs/ranking/47) which is useful because stations often do not publicize their prices. 154 a liter X 3.79 liters per gallon / 135 jpy to dollar = $4.32 a gallon vs $4.94 from AAFE$. I recommend using a points earning credit card with no foreign transaction fees or CASH along with a gasoline rewards program card such a T-point at ENOS to buy gas. Quit paying more on base.

If it is intimidating to buy gas off-base, just say RE-GYU-RA MON-TON ONEGAISHIMASU. Which means please fill my tank with regular.

This butterfly garden is close to the Aquarium so it could easily be added as a stop on your next day trip up Okinawa's coast. The great thing is that, like the Aquarium, the garden is partially inside and outside (since during this rainy season, many are looking for things to do to get out of the house, but still stay dry)
It was affordable, clean, and kid-friendly. It also included more than just butterflies, but I won't spoil the rest for you!
