Japanese digital minister Masaaki Taira, reiterating that the government will stop issuing new health insurance cards on Dec 2 as planned in a move to integrate them into My Number electronic personal identification cards, despite public distrust in problem-prone My Number cards.

Minoru Naito, an associate professor at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) graduate school and an expert in community translation. He says qualified medical translators have been in short supply while demand continues to grow, driven by the increasing number of foreign residents and visitors in Japan. To meet the growing demand for translators in health care, TUFS will launch a medical interpreter training course next spring.
