The end of trail over the Torii pass was Narai-Juku. Not the biggest but surely the most well known and preserved post town on the Nakasendo, Narai is like a movie set with a kilometer long Street lined with shops, traditional eateries and old inns. If you want to learn more about history of the town there are a couple of museums to see. Just a step away from the main street is the Daihoji Temple and if you look up the hill you will see the red Torii gate of the Inari Shrine. Narai is lively and fun with something to enjoy for everyone. Here I am sharing a short video to give you a taste of what this charming post town is like

Sharing a short video of our hike up the Torii Pass, where the Nakasendo trail connects the post towns of Yabuhara and Narai. This part of the Kiso Road was quite different from the section between Magome and Tsumago. The elevation was higher, and the forest had its own distinct character. Unlike the other section, there were no hamlets along the way—just pristine nature.
What I loved most were the majestic trees we passed, especially the colony of ancient horse chestnut trees. The mountain paths were carpeted with fallen leaves, and bubbly streams accompanied us throughout our journey. Looking at the photos and videos I took transports me back to the peace and ageless beauty of the forest. Such a sweet, unforgettable experience!
