I was back in Kamakura today for another tour. The weather was a bit on the wild side: it started overcast, then it rained, then it got sunny, then it rained with raindrops fine as mist. Then, at the Big Buddha it started raining in earnest 🙂 A real downpour. We still went to our final destination - Hokokuji Temple to see its beautiful garden and for a bowl of delicious matcha. To sit at the tea house, looking at the green bamboo forest in front of it and listening to the sound of the rain was a beautiful experience. Here are a few photos of currently very green and heavily soaked in rain Kamakura. The leaves are just beginning to change their colors and green is still the color of the day

Have you ever been to Nikko? This picturesque mountain town is the home of one of Japan’s most beautiful World Heritage sites. The Toshogu is the resting place of the first Tokugawa Sh**un while the Taiyuin is the shrine where his grandson, the third Tokugawa Sh**un Iemitsu was berried. Both sites take your breath with the beauty of their shrines and temples that is enhanced by the serenity of the ancient forest surrounding them. Join me in this series of short videos to experience some of their magic.

A fun fact about Japan - it's not a big country but it surely is a long one. Superimposed on Europe it stretches from Berlin to Madrid and beyond! Thanks to that it has several climate zones - from cool and snowy winters in Hokkaido to tropical beaches in Okinawa and the little islands stretching down to Taiwan. As far as nature goes Japan seems to have it all!

I design trips in Japan for an Australian company and sometimes I guide tours from these trips. Below, I am sharing the review a client wrote about my Tokyo's Best Kept Secrets tour. I love meeting my clients in person and being of service, giving an enjoyable experience is deeply fulfilling to me. Thank you, D!
It was very lovely to spend the day with Makayla! She is a wealth of knowledge about Japanese history and discovering all about the Temples and Shrines was such a pleasure. Her support in helping me understand the subway system helped the rest of my trip so much! Highly recommend!

From today’s adventures, this time in Asakusa that was full with visitors even in the early morning. In order: the Nakamise street leading to the Sensoji Temple; a young boy cooling himself in a jet stream of cool mist (it’s very hot and humid here,) a cool stream with koi fish behind the temple and the most amazing shaved ice with matcha, sweet Azuki beans and condensed milk toppings
