ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වියළි කලාප වල හා අතරමැදි කලාපවල දැකිය හැකි 20 m පමණ උසට වැඩෙන ගල්සියඹලා (Dialium ovoideum) අප රටට ආවේණික, වන පළතුරකි. fabeceac හෙවත් රනිල කුලයට අයත් වේ. ගල් කැට (Pebble) ස්වරූපයකින් තද බවකින් යුක්ත වීම සහ සියඹලා වලට තරමක් සමාන බැවින් ගල් සි‍යඹලා (Pronounced: Gal Siyambala; Meaning: Pebble-like/Hard Tamarind) ලෙස නම ලැබී ඇත. ඇඹුල් රස මිශ්‍ර පැණි රසකින් යුක්තය. සි‍යඹලා වලට සාපේක්ෂව පැණි රසින් වැඩි අතර මදය වියළි බවින් වැඩි පිටි/කුඩු ස්වරූපයක් ගනී. පිට බූව විල්ලුද (Velvet) ස්වරූපයක් ගන්නා සියඹලා (Tamarind) වැනි බැවින් Velvet Tamarind ලෙස ඉංග්‍රීසි බසින් හැඳින්වේ
අසම පක්ෂවත් සංයුක්ත පත්‍රවල පත්‍ර තලය දිලිසෙන ස්වභාවයක් ගන්නා අතර පත්‍රිකා ලංසාකාරය. සුදු පැහැති කුඩා මල් පොකුරු වශයෙන් අතු අග පිපෙයි. අප්‍රේල්, මැයි සහ ජූනි කාල වලදී පුෂ්ප හට ගන්නා අතර ඵල හට ගැනීම හා ඉදීම ජූලි, අගෝස්තු සහ සැප්තැම්බර් මාස වලදී සිදු වේ. ඔවලාකාර හැඩයක් ගන්නා ඵල දිගින් 1.5 - 2 cm හා පළලින් 1.5 cm පමණ ප්‍රමාණයකින් යුක්ත වේ. මෙහි පොත්ත විල්ලුද ගතියකින් යුක්තය. හොඳින් ඉදුණු පසු පොත්ත කළු පැහැයට හැරෙන අතර ළපටි කාලයේ මෙහි පොත්ත කොළ පාටය.
ගල් සියඹලා විටමින් A සහ C, රයිබොෆ්ලේවින්, නයසින්, මැග්නීසියම්, කැල්සියම්, පොස්පරස්, පොටෑසියම්, යකඩ, සෝඩියම් යන පෝෂක කොටස් වලින් පොහොසත්ය. ඉතා ඖෂධීය ගුණයක් ඇති ගල්සියඹලා පත්‍ර, ඵල සහ පොතු මිනිසුන් ගේ බොහෝ රෝගා බාධ සඳහා ප්‍රතිකර්ම ලෙස දේශීය වෙදකමේ භාවිතයට ගනී. මෙම ශාකයේ දැවමය වටිනාක්මක්ද පවතී. මෙහි ඵල නෙළා ගත යුත්තේ පොකුරු වශයෙන් කුඩා අතු කැපීමෙන් වුවද මිනිසුන් විසින් විශාල වශයෙන් අතු කැපීම මෙම ශාකයේ පැවැත්මට තර්ජනයකි. 2020 රතු දත්ත ලැයිස්තුවට අනුව අවදානමට ලක්විය හැකි විශේෂයක් ලෙස දක්වා ඇත.
