Koi Koi Plaza near Yatsushiro City Hall is hosting a beer garden and food stall nights this summer! Special tickets priced at 1,000 with a value of 1,500 yen are for sale for any deal-hunters. Purchasers are also entered into a lottery with a chance to win 10,000 yen worth of these tickets!

The original craft beer "Yatsushiro Banpeiyu Draft 3" is now for sale at Yatsushiro Yokatoko Bussankan (Farmers' Market)!!! The citrus fruit themed Draft 3 comes after previous tomato and ginger drafts. Try a sample of it when you visit!

✏️📖This month's Nihongo Kouryu Hiroba (Japanese Exchange Plaza) was Tanabata themed! 🎋⭐ Plenty of people enjoyed the Star Festival by writing their wishes on paper and decorating a bamboo pole with them. Next month's theme is cooking! 🍳👩‍🍳😋 So keep an eye out for sign-ups in August.

🫎 Craft Class at Dendenkan: Make accessories with deer antlers! 🫎

Experience the Jomon era by creating your own hair pin out of a deer antler. It can also be used as a letter opener. The Yatsushiro City Center for Folk Performing Arts (Omatsuri Dendenkan) is collaborating with the Kumamoto Prefectural Decorated Tumulus Museum to offer this class.

This March 3rd, come to the 42nd Sencho Igusa no Sato Festival!

A "rush grass" centered event will be held in the rush grass "hometown" of Sencho, Yatsushiro. Some say rush grass' fragrance is relaxing. We hope visitors enjoy the sights and spells of this early spring festival.

Date: Sunday, March 3, 2024, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Location: Yatsushiro City Community Center, Igusa-no-sato Park, Sencho Community Center area
Activities: Igusa and Igusa Product Fair Award Ceremony, Exhibition

　　　 Performances by Sencho Town's traditional performing arts preservation society
Raffle Drawing
　　　 Mochitsuki (rice-cake pounding), hanagoza (hand-weaving), and traditional games
　　　 Rush coaster shooting parlor, Rush ring toss, Children's mikoshi (portable shrine)
　　　 Mini Tatami mat making, Mini SL (miniature train)
　　　 Igusa Cooking Corner, Product Sales, Food Trucks, and more!
　　　
Main Events
(1) 100,000 yen travel voucher as a special prize in the Raffle Drawing
(2) High-quality tatami mats will be given away (5 winners selected by drawing)
(3) Sakamoto Reconstruction Support Project: First 500 visitors to the hall will receive one Botamochi, a Sakamoto specialty

🌧The weather in Yatsushiro has been pretty dark and dreary lately, but that just makes the plum blossoms pop even more! Their hot-pink color helps brighten my February days. 🩷 You can find these particular plum blossoms at Matsui Shrine, just north of the Yatsushiro Castle Ruins.

This March 3rd (Sunday) from 10 AM to 4 PM is the Sencho Town Igusa Festival at Sencho Community Center and Igusa no Sato Park! 💚

Come for the performances and variety of food for sale, stay for the crafts, prize drawing, and igusa awards ceremony!
Performers include Eitaro, the idol group Earth Ace K*M, local womens' sumo matches, and more! Make your own mini-tatami mat and a multicolored igusa coasters!

Visit to sample and buy delicious food raised, harvested, and made in Yatsushiro, Minamata, Ashikita, Hitoyoshi, Kuma, and more!
Lounge at the kotatsu corner with some mandarin oranges and feel the Yatsushiro tatami flooring for yourself.
Food products developed by high schoolers also available for sale!
Local patisseries will be selling their special Valentine's Day themed sweets.
The 3rd ever Wild Game Competition is being held at the same time!

Laugh and Learn about SDGs in Yatsushiro!

Watch Yasui Masaji, leader of the Kyushu Shinkigeki, Mokkosu Fire, and others perform their comedy routines based around SDGs, and listen in on the laugh-out-loud Yoshimoto Performers' Special Stage!

Local businesses and high school students will present their projects, and there are tons of card games and activities to enjoy! Food trucks will also be on the scene.
