The Wildbook for Whale Sharks uses an algorithm first developed by NASA to identify individual whale sharks by the patterns on their skin. This provides scientists with critical information about the sharks' population hotspots and migration routes.

This is going to be one of the various research projects we shall undertake during 2018 whale shark expeditions: collect samples of the water where the sharks are encountered.

A new monitoring technique could help assess and protect highly migratory species like this whale shark.

With just over a few plastic bottles of seawater, scientists can analyze for environmental DNA, which can be used to measure the presence, the diversity, and potentially the relative abundance of sharks in any given area. http://pew.org/2isX7HH

As part of our volunteer program, we support a local orphanage with 63 children. Before Christmas, we were able to get rid of their bedbug problem which they had been struggling with for over eight(!!!) months! Have a look at how we did it and come join us for our next projects! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpl8IN-aBvk

Our program include other projects besides the marine conservation, such as our jiggers project. Jiggers is a nasty type of flea that can lay eggs inside your feet if you walk barefoot - children are especially vulnerable to this due to their thin skin. We have seen multiple cases of feet so bad that the kids can't even walk to school, let alone focus during the lessons with all the itching and the pain.

We treat the children to get rid of the jiggers in their feet, but more importantly, we collect and donate shoes as a more permanent solution!

On the day before Christmas last year, we were able to completely eradict bedbugs from an orphanage. They had been suffering from the problem for almost eight months(!) and many of the children were sleeping on the hard concrete floor because of it. Thanks to our amazing volunteers and donations from friends and family all over the world, we could give the kids a bedbug free Christmas and all new mattresses for a good night sleep!
