Steve was our guide at Samburu Intrepids: he wowed us with his charm, immense knowledge and kept us safe all through. He made the trip the most memorable and we would not have it any other way.

Have you ever been to Giraffe Center?

Imagine a world with only 130 Rothschild giraffes left, their habitat vanishing. That was the reality facing these majestic creatures in East Africa. But one couple, Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville, refused to let them disappear. Driven by compassion, they took in two orphaned giraffe calves, Daisy and Marlon, sparking a remarkable journey of conservation. Their home in Lang’ata, just outside Nairobi, became the birthplace of the Giraffe Centre, a beacon of hope for this endangered subspecies. This incredible story of dedication and love for wildlife is a testament to the power of individual action.

When we visited Samburu Sopa, nothing prepared us for this beauty. Sitting in top of a hill, the lodge offers a wide view of the special landscape of Samburu.
Our visit was just after the rains so the whole area was full lush of green, unlike what we know of the dry area. The bird colonies really bloomed at this time and even when the midday sun got really hot, nothing like a dip in the swimming pool to cool off.
