Congregating in large herds is one of their many anti-predator adaptations. Large herds decrease the possibility of any individual being singled out by lions.

Have you heard…South Sudan's first comprehensive aerial wildlife survey in partnership with found about 6 million antelope, marking the world's largest land mammal migration.
This vital savannah ecosystem, part of the White Nile floodplain, hosts the largest populations of migratory antelope. Just like the famous , this migrationfollows circular patterns and is all year round.
However, declines in sedentary species like elephants and giraffes since the 1980s underscore the need for protection beyond Boma and Badingilo national parks.
Truly incredible news for South Sudan. Hats off to all landscape partners involved in the project.

The recent days have brought intriguing experiences for us at Africa-Untamed, as we've had the pleasure of hosting a historian guest with a keen interest in the history of human civilization, particularly focusing on the influence of The Oman along the Kenyan coast.

Throughout antiquity, the Swahili coast attracted merchants from distant regions, spanning from Mogadishu to Sofala, and extending to West India, Persia, and Arabia.

By the 8th century, an influx of Muslims, particularly to Kilwa and Zanzibar, intensified trade in ivory, gold, and slaves, primarily from Muscat/Oman.

This trade escalated in the 12th century with the founding of Lamu, possibly due to increased demand following the prosperity of Southwest Asia after the Mongol invasion.
Concurrently, the coastal regions embraced Islam, leading to a significant Arabization and Islamicization of the Swahili culture and language.

During the dry season, few natural rivers flow and waterholes are dry throughout the Laikipia region, forcing the elephants to resort to alternative measures. The pool contains salt water with no chemicals, making it safe and a perfect stop for the eles. Enjoying the sounds they make when they drink and communicate, or seeing textures of their skin and their long eyelashes is always a surreal experience!
