The Mara Conservancy's rangers arrested two leopard poachers the night before last on the escarpment just beyond the Mara Triangle. The killing of leopards for their skins, often with snares, traps or poison, is becoming an increasing problem as the Conservancy has documented at least 20 confiscated pelts. These two had a well-skinned and salted pelt so they are obviously experienced hunters. Great job on the part of our rangers!

Following a series of security incidents attributed to violent extremists, including Al Shabaab, several countries including Britain, have reissued their travel advisory on Kenya warning against all non-essential travel to Mombasa and its environs as well as Eastleigh and the low income slums of Nairobi.

Terrorism is a global threat and not unique to Kenya and we offer our deepest sympathies to our fellow Kenyans who have been caught up in the recent incidents.

We at Ol Pejeta Conservancy stand firm that the vast majority of Kenya remains a safe safari destination and that the advisories should not deter anyone wanting to visit this amazing country.

The safari circuit of Mount Kenya and Laikipia is a focus for many conservation and community efforts. The result is a beautiful, diverse wilderness with a strong sense of local identity.
