World Lion Day is celebrated on the 10th August of every year to raise awareness about lions and to mobilise support for their protection and conservation.

Lions are listed as a vulnerable species according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN)

We have around 1,200 lions in Zambia.

The bulk of our lions are predominantly split into two subpopulations, with one in the Kafue ecosystem in the west and the other in the Luangwa/Zambezi valley ecosystem in the east.

The lion population in Zambia, makes up around 5% of the total global population.
