Mama Cheetah Nashipae and her 2 sweet cubs. Always on the lookout for danger while moving with the cubs. The Zebra in the background are too big of an animal for her to hunt. Noticing a hyena in the distance she moved onto a safer area with the cubs.

There’s no place in the world like the Masai Mara.
The landscapes alone are stunning.
The animals bring mystery and wonder.
And the culture and people are beautiful.
They have much to teach and share with us.

While on safari, you’ll spend a lot of time in a vehicle.
Our vehicles have a pop up roof that enables you to stand up to view animals while also having shade when the sun comes out.
Every now and then, it’s nice to find a safe place to also stretch the legs and let our Masai guide take a look on the horizon to see what animals we can go and find. A few weeks ago, spotted a lion about to make a kill. We watched the kill through the binoculars as we were making our way across a river and by the time we arrived to the other side, the lions were feasting on an impala.

Here’s the uploaded picture from the camera we shared a few days ago.
Kaboso, a well known leopard in the Masai Mara.
She’s stunning.
Almost too gorgeous and intense to make eye contact with when you encounter her in the wild.

The elusive leopard, found in their favorite place to hang out. We captured this a year ago in the Masai Mara.
The Masai Mara is located in the south eastern part of Kenya after the Masai tribe. It is one of the most famous and important wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa. It also has the highest density of animals in Kenya.

This is a lovely Masai Giraffe roaming in the plains of the Masai Mara.
According to National Geographic, “Scientists had long recognized one giraffe species and nine subspecies. Then ecologists began an analysis of giraffe relationships. Giraffes, it turns out, are not one species, but indeed four”.
Kenya has the highest number of giraffes despite the decrease in number over the last decade.
They also have the most diverse species.
“Two giraffe species and one subspecies live in Kenya: the reticulated giraffe, which roams northern and eastern Kenya; the Masai giraffe, which inhabits the savanna and woodlands of southern Kenya; and the Nubian giraffe (formerly Rothschild’s giraffe), a subspecies of northern giraffe that’s reduced to small, scattered populations in western and central Kenya” -Nat Geo.

The Great Wildebeest Migration is the largest animal migration in the world.
Every year, more than 2 million animals (wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle) migrate in a clockwise direction across the ecosystems of the Serengeti (Tanzania) and the Masai Mara (Kenya).
When they cross the Mara river, it’s one of the most intense sights to see in nature.
There’s crocodiles leaping out of the river for their next meal, the sound of herds charging through water and pounding on the ground to make way to safety, while lions and other predators are hidden in bushes and trees ready to also hunt for their next meal.
It’s one of the most magnificent opportunities to see the circle of life in action.
And the time is NOW!
The migration tends to happen late July, through August and beginning of September. It is why this is considered high tourist season for national reserves, especially the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

This mama cheetah’s name is Nashipae which means “always happy” in Maa language.
Perhaps this is true of her the majority of the time, but not when she’s protecting her babies. They were so playful, rolling around and chasing each other (can you spot both of her babies in this picture?).
She has to be super protective though, the first few months are critical as they can be prey to many predators out there like hyenas and eagles. Good thing their cute Mohawks look like the tall grass. If any predators come around, you’ll see them quickly lay in the grass and be still as a statue.

Leopards are very territorial. There’s several leopards in the Masai Mara who have become so well known in their territory that they have names.
This is Luluka.
She’s absolutely stunning.
These are rare moments, not always guaranteed, but we’d love to see you experience the best spots in Kenya 🐾 ............................................

In the Masai Mara, these elephants were walking across a big field in the heat of the day and found this oasis. It was an incredible sight to see them play and cool down. Another reason they’ll put mud on their skin is for it to dry off then rub against a tree and this will get parasites off them. They’re brilliant and gentle giants.

Another good tree for shade. Another bush breakfast with friends. Just another day in the Masai Mara. .....................
