Our mountain team have just returned from another successful expedition to Point Lenana (4985) at the top of Mt Kenya with the Sandville Self Help Foundation, as part of their Charity Challenge to raise vital funds for their organisation in North Wales. We are exceptionally pleased and proud to have been able to plan, organise and deliver this journey in our first collaboration with the Ultimate Travel Company.
Using the quieter Wangu route, just north of Timau, we embarked across the sweeping West Marania plateau to a high camp at Simba Tarn over three days. Three nights of camping under clear, cold skies was a unique experience for the group of seven ably supported by our expedition doctor. Our interaction with wildlife was second to none observing Elan, Zebra and even a pair of Buffalo at 4200m at Majors Campsite wondering across the ridgeline.
After a 3am wake up call; summit day did not disappoint. Mutual support, singing (the team boasted much musical and vocal talent) and many displays of courage and resilience were in order as the group reached the summit after a long, cold climb. As we summited we were greeted with clear weather and panoramic views as the sun in her typical dramatic fashion rose to meet the ecstatic, emotional team emphasising the sheer commitment and effort to support their organisation.
Human spirit at its boldest, rawest and most vulnerable initiated by adventure, challenge and exploration into an individual’s hidden depths. A privilege to experience and be part of ‘Asante sana’ to all of the amazing team from Sandville who made this expedition an absolute pleasure from all the staff at Rift Valley Adventures.

our team here at RVA are in full swing on Mt Kenya as our mountain season continues. Currently we are journeying on our 5 day package on the Sirimon Route. Starting at Sirimon Gate (2650m) all the way up to Pont Lenana (4985m) and back again. With four overnight camps and an acclimatisation day at Shiptons Camp (4200m) our trips are just the ticket for an adventurous and challenging experience.

Just a week in with our dear old friends, and what a week it’s been! This is always a very special time of the year for us as the school has been coming out annually since 2013 (bar those Covid closure years). Building life long friendship is at the very core of what is meaningful to us as a small outdoor adventure company on the slopes of Mount Kenya. And the fundraising efforts that the students put in year after year towards supporting our immediate community is remarkable! From Edinburgh to Ethi with love! We are in full swing at our Forest Camp, on the edge of the beautiful Ndare Ngare forest, preparing to host the from 29 May - 2 Jun 24.The first five day multi-stage MTB race in Kenya sees our awesome team at RVA meticulously preparing the logistical support to run a successful, challenging, safe mountain bike event in conjunction with . Over the last two days we have started to formulate our exciting race coverage plan across all social media platforms with our Media Team from Nairobi; led by with Director Jerry, David and Tony supporting they present a formidable, innovative, creative force. We were excited to show them around the routes and everything we are planning for our participants at Forest Camp - its going to be EPIC

It’s been a busy month once again with over 180 Adventurous Training participants through Forest Camp. We’ve continued to deliver challenging, adventurous and safe training on land and in the water. Rock Climbing at Ndare Ngare Crag, Mountain Biking on the dusty tracks and trails around our local community and Canyoning in the Ndare Ngare Forest all led by our local team of internationally qualified and highly motivated instructors. And our catering team continue to provide excellent food at every mealtime whether it’s in camp or out in the field on activities no matter how many people we have!
Whether its our instructors or support team the feedback is always welcome and very encouraging:

Following an excellent day of adventurous leadership and resilience refresher training from our colleagues in Nanyuki, we have launched into March with the first of our Adventurous Training groups for the year. With the unique outdoor requirements we are delighted that they have chosen us as a preferred provider for land and water based outdoor training again for the 10th year in a row. We are proud of the RVA team and its ability, versatility and professionalism to deliver challenging, adventurous and safe activities for this diverse client group. We are looking forward to welcoming more groups through March. Watch this space for exciting updates on all that is going on at RVA!

Our month has concluded with the opportunity to learn and develop as an organisation with Tim and Kanja who have many years of outdoor experience between them. Tim and Kanja were both involved in the inception and development of the first Outdoor Education programmes in Daystar University, Kenya.
We gathered all our departments together from housekeeping to the Instructors to work in several critical soft skill areas including communication, leadership, adaptability to change and collaborative working.
The weekend was a mix of fun, practical, team building sessions and challenges coupled with theoretical presentations on self-leadership.
Moving forward we are now better prepared as an organisation to deliver our unique outdoor adventure journeys and can’t wait to see you here in the Ndare Ngare Forest!
