Our month has concluded with the opportunity to learn and develop as an organisation with Tim and Kanja who have many years of outdoor experience between them. Tim and Kanja were both involved in the inception and development of the first Outdoor Education programmes in Daystar University, Kenya.
We gathered all our departments together from housekeeping to the Instructors to work in several critical soft skill areas including communication, leadership, adaptability to change and collaborative working.
The weekend was a mix of fun, practical, team building sessions and challenges coupled with theoretical presentations on self-leadership.
Moving forward we are now better prepared as an organisation to deliver our unique outdoor adventure journeys and can’t wait to see you here in the Ndare Ngare Forest!

Karibu to Enkoitoi East Africa who, a group of 15 outdoor enthusiasts from different parts of the USA! Led by Tim Fairman, who worked in Kenya many years ago developing and laying the foundation for outdoor education many years ago and an honour for us to partner with him.
The team were made up of a diverse group, across a wide age range, with experiences and stories that kept the RVA team enthralled during activities and around our campfire every evening. From growing up in a log cabin in Alaska,  backcountry skiing experiences, multi- day river rafting expeditions in Colorado and leading self supported mountain bike trips it proved to be a once in a lifetime collaborative exchange, centered around learning through adventure, across our two continents.
An excellent week for all of us - clients and the RVA team alike. We hope to have many more opportunities to forge partnerships that can exchange cultures, values and ideas.

Asante Enkoitoi!

Happy new 2024 adventures to all!

We've arrived back from the holiday period refreshed, revitalised and raring to deliver more exciting and challenging activities during this year.
We have more exciting firsts for Rift Valley Adventures to look forward to ofer the coming months.
Collaborations with new Charity Challenges, partnerships in running a new, exciting and unique 5 day stage MTB race and reaching further afield with schools from Nigeria and Ethiopia! Of course not forgetting our long terms schools and groups who continue to trust Rift Valley Adventures to deliver safe and unique adventures.
We have been preparing this week with some in-house staff training to develop and grow our team's knowledge and skills ensuring safe delivery across our wide range of activities. From testing the water in the canyon, feeling the warmth of the rock and experiencing the sun and wind on our faces on the bikes. In the classroom we have also been applying ourselves to the theoretical aspects of soft skills in action to ensure our participants are holistically challenged during their stay with us.
Karibu to Rift Valley Adventures!

The rains eased this week to reveal warm sun for our final rock foundation course of the year. We had plenty of good learning at the local venues with a finale on the wild and improbable looking crag in Laikipia at İl Polei. It’s been tricky in the rains but with our adaptability and experience we have been able to keep delivering adventure training to a high standard.
Great effort to all those who have passed through successfully on their foundation courses and we look forward to delivering plenty more in 2024!

With the rains and heavy weather means we need to be adaptive to meet the adventure training objectives. Something we can do well with qualified guides and good local knowledge. Three packed days with a keen team. Abseiling down and climbing up waterfalls, climbing perfect granite and even diving into our rope skills as well as belaying and knots that will get your land cruiser out the mud. All good learning but of course it also puts a smile on your face and can be great fun too! ( )

A great few days with a team on the rock foundation course. Plenty of learning and practising before taking those skills out into the wilds of Laikipia. An inspiring place with big landscapes and huge amounts of unexplored rock for the team to tackle. After a nice nights reflection in a wild bush camp it was all too soon back to reality but with the knowledge that there are still wild and unexplored rock faces to go along with the new skills learnt on the course -

Last week our team of instructors and support staff embarked with a school group on a 5day MTB expedition around Laikipia county. Starting the week with bike skills the group progressed through three demanding, challenging, adventure days covering over 130kms by pedal power. They experienced amazing scenery and wildlife along the way coping with everything the terrain could throw at them. Nights spent at different campsites provided the backdrop for relaxation around the campfires and stories of daily highs and challenges; personal journeys and learning in the most unique environment.

All the team: our security staff, chefs, caretakers and instructors participated in three days of theory and practical elements to ensure we are current with the skills, knowledge and experience to administer First Aid in any situation where we operate.

Last week our team have been back out on the saddle for some advanced planning for our challenging MTB expedition which one of our school groups will take part in next month.
Five of our instructors planned and completed a reconnaissance from our camp in Ndare Ngare Forest to our camp in Ol Pejeta via Il Polei and Ol Gaboli in the Laikipia region.
As well as preparing the logistics, checking the route and the campsites for the expedition, this activity forms part of our team and individual development of our instructors. allowing them time together to deepen personal adventure skills, share knowledge and learn from each other. We are raring to go now and can't wait for the expedition!
