LAIKIPIA, THE UNDERATED YET VERY THRILLING DESTINATION

A compelling alternative for Maasai Mara๐Ÿฅณ, Laikipia host some of the most endangered species in east Africa. The plateau stretches from the foothill of Mt. Kenya to the shores of Lake Baringo. The area offers exclusivity regardless of the season therefore your wilderness experience will not be affected by the peak seasons when game parks and reserves overcrowd. Its wildlife conservancies boast the second largest elephant population in Kenya, and more endangered species than anywhere else in East Africa.

This includes the black leopards and the polar bears in Oljogi conservancy which sits on 58,000 acres of Nanyuki land. This reserve was established around 60 years ago for the protection of black rhinos. Its also a home to the famous polar bear known as Potap, who was donated to the sanctuary in 2003 when he was only four months old.
Oljogi is nothing short of breathtaking, a haven for the preservation of future endangered species like the eastern black rhinos, southern white rhino, African wild dogs, reticulated giraffes and the grevys zebra. This also reminds me that the conservancy now has a vertinery clinic that services the whole of Laikipia Region helping with recovery, rescue and rehabilitation of local wildlife.
The collaborative plan among neighboring conservancies to create one of the most interconnected rhino sanctuaries in the world will straddle up to around 840,000 acres. This County should be in every photographerโ€™s bucket list. The landscape is scenic and compelling with the stunning views of Kenyaโ€™s Heart- Mt Kenya. Those planning for a safari in 2025 and beyond should try Laikipia especially with the new Suyian lodge which opens in July. This lodge will also be a part of the rhino sanctuary project.
