Throwback Thursdays — The Effect on Us

Almost a decade and a half ago, someone coined the phrase Throwback Thursday for an article.
And just like that, it ignited across social media, becoming a timeless tradition.

It’s catchy, isn’t it?
We all have those moments etched in nostalgia—snapshots of life we wish we could step back into, even just for a moment.
A younger version of ourselves stares back from the past, carefree and unburdened.
And in those moments, a jolt of emotion rushes through us, especially when recalling events that changed the course of our lives.

Sometimes, it’s a naive, wide-eyed you that greets you from those memories.
Other times, it’s the wisdom of hindsight smiling fondly at those innocent, untamed days.
These are the treasures that time-trappers—those magical beings we call photographers—preserve for eternity.

How fortunate are we, the generation that can freeze time!
With a simple touch, we seize the fleeting moments, storing them in our pockets, printing them for our walls, and sharing them with the world.
What would past generations think of us? The ones who can pause time, frame it, and carry it with us wherever we go?
Magicians?
Extraterrestrials?

Maybe the time travelers among us can tell.
But for now, let’s share these frozen moments—glimpses of this beautiful planet that take us back.
Drop your favorite throwback pictures, friends. Let’s celebrate the memories we hold dear.

After all, it’s Throwback Thursday!

African Legends;
Queen Nzinga;
The Indomitable Spirit of Angola

In the heart of 17th-century Angola, when foreign powers loomed over her homeland, there rose a queen whose name would echo through history—
Nzinga Mbande.
Born around 1583 into the royal family of Ndongo, Nzinga inherited not only the bloodline of leaders but also the fierce resilience of a warrior.

In 1624,
Nzinga took her place on the throne, a throne she would hold for 37 defiant years. Surrounded by the threat of Portuguese invaders hungry to expand their empire, Queen Nzinga stood firm.
With diplomacy as sharp as her spear, she first negotiated peace, skillfully weaving alliances and outmaneuvering colonial tactics. She faced the Portuguese in diplomatic talks with legendary presence, reportedly sitting on a servant’s back to match the governor’s eye level, refusing to be seen as inferior.

When diplomacy failed, Nzinga turned to the battlefield.
She allied with neighboring kingdoms, unified the people, and even formed a powerful coalition with the Dutch to counter Portuguese advances.
But she was more than a warrior queen.
Nzinga freed enslaved people within her realm, reshaped society, and inspired loyalty through courage and care, embodying the heart of a nation determined to stay free.

Nzinga's story is more than history—it’s a legacy. She fought not only for her people’s freedom but also for a future where Angola’s spirit could thrive. Today, Queen Nzinga remains a symbol of resilience, strength, and the unbreakable will to live and lead on one's own terms.

BUTTERFLY
I found you,
camouflaged in thorny shade,
Desperately seeking the sun's warm aid.
To rise and soar in the sky so high,
I became your chrysalis, close by.
Patiently waiting with ultraviolet gleam,
To unveil your patterns, a hidden dream.

No longer bound by thorns so tight,
The sun now fills you with pure delight.
Savor the nectar, oh butterfly,
Inhale the sweet scents as you fly by.
Embrace the world's sweetness, life’s grand display, With wings unfurled, dance in the day.
