King Lewanika is a property that's been around for a while in the remote west of Zambia - Luiwa Plains. Previously under the management of +Tide, it has now been taken over by Ker & Downy Zambia. This lodge is certainly worth the effort of getting there! In addition, Luiwa Plains is one of those parks with magic! And, it is host to the second largest Wildebeest Migration in the world as well as a place to witness one of the most uniquely cultural events - the Kuomboka festival. This is where the Kings Procession move to higher grounds when the plains start to flood.

December offers a unique opportunity to experience the fascinating Singing Wells in Samburu, Kenya, where cultural heritage, wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes come together. This extraordinary event is a rare and unforgettable way to witness the bond between the Samburu people and their livestock, all set against the stunning backdrop of Kenya’s northern frontier.
The Singing Wells are so named for the incredible, age-old tradition of the Samburu herders, who sing to their livestock while drawing water from deep wells in the dry riverbeds. The melody and rhythm of the singing echo through the air as the herders harmonize to keep their animals calm while fetching water, creating a captivating and immersive cultural experience. It’s a rare chance to witness this unique ritual, passed down through generations.
December is a fantastic time to visit the Singing Wells as the dry season reaches its peak. With the lack of rain, the wells are at their deepest, and herders from surrounding areas converge to water their cattle. The vibrant energy and activity make for a truly dynamic and moving experience.
While visiting the Singing Wells, you’re also likely to spot wildlife drawn to the region in search of water, including elephants, giraffes, and even predators like lions. The Samburu ecosystem is rich in wildlife, with unique species such as Grevy’s zebras and Somali ostriches, offering excellent opportunities for safaris and photography.

Every November, the skies above Kasanka National Park in Zambia come alive with one of the most awe-inspiring wildlife spectacles on the planet: the annual bat migration. Millions of straw-colored fruit bats, traveling from across Africa, descend upon Kasanka’s swamp forest, creating a jaw-dropping natural phenomenon.

October is an exhilarating time for anglers to visit the Lower Zambezi—one of Africa’s premier destinations for tiger fish fishing. Known for their fierce fight and striking appearance, tiger fish offer a thrilling challenge for fishing enthusiasts, and October is peak season to catch these legendary predators.
As the dry season nears its end, water levels in the Zambezi River drop, concentrating fish into smaller areas and increasing the activity of tiger fish. Their aggressive nature during this time makes them more likely to strike, providing some of the best fishing opportunities of the year.
Tigerfish, often called the “freshwater barracuda,” are renowned for their strength, speed, and acrobatics. Hooking one of these powerful fish promises an unforgettable battle, making every catch a hard-earned victory.

July marks the start of the dry season in Ruaha and Nyerere National Parks, making it an ideal time for safari enthusiasts. As the dry conditions set in, wildlife congregates around waterholes, offering more frequent and predictable sightings of iconic species like elephants, lions, and predators such as leopards and wild dogs. With less dense vegetation, visibility improves, ensuring better wildlife encounters.

The weather is perfect for safaris, with warm days and cooler evenings, creating a comfortable experience for game drives and bush walks. Additionally, the dry conditions make the parks easier to navigate, with accessible roads for a smooth adventure.

Though it’s the start of peak season, July still offers fewer crowds than August, allowing for a more intimate and serene safari experience.
