MAN Vs NATURE:
Whose needs do we protect?
When it comes to humans and the environment, one cannot exist without the other however activities of humans can lead to outright destruction of nature which will eventually lead to human suffering.. However there are three realities of this question that we have to consider;
1. Environmental reality: Human development (commercial & private) threatens the environment and leads to an increase in demand on natural resources. Extraction of these resources further threatens our fragile ecosystems.
2. Economic reality: Within developing countries, protection of the environment hinders and takes away economic growth
Also, people depend on the environment to extract and create economic wealth
3. Conflicting reality: The political cost of protection of the environment,
Poaching and illegal wildlife and environmental products trade
Cost of environmental protection
Solution? Ecotourism
Why? Because it changes how people relate their economic needs to the environment and the correlation between the two
Ecotourism generates jobs that provide incentives for protecting the environment.

Update from immigration Kenya on ETA

1. Evisas will be issued until 31st Dec 2023 and from 1st Jan 2024 the ETA will be issued. *ALL travelers* (except EAC citizens) must apply for the ETA - including those that were previously Visa exempt.

2. All Evisas issued before 1st Jan 2024 will be valid for the normal 90 days.

3. The ETA does not require account registration by users. There will be a Mobile APP that allows one to scan their passport to automatically populate their ETA application - this will greatly minimize errors with names, dates etc. The ETA will also allow user input in multiple languages.

4. The turn around time will range from same day approval to a maximum of 72 hours (three days).

5. It is intended to introduce Premium or Express applications at a higher fee - to cater for urgent travellers.

6. Whilst the ETA is a single entry authorization, the "Visitors Pass" will still be issued on arrival and allow for free re-entry from *within East Africa*.

7. There is further clarification needed about the East Africa Tourist Visa as Kenya may not be in a position to issue this under the ETA. EATV issued by the other partner states will however be honoured.

8. Immigration will create a24HR Command Centre to address any emerging issues.

9. Payment processing will be facilitated using several different cards - to enable smooth payments.

10. There will be official Notification issued through a NOTAM to effect the changes.

The ETA being a new system may
experience a few issues at the beginning but Immigration DG pledged to work closely with stakeholders to quickly address any issues as and when they may arise.

Kenya is set to end visa requirements for all African visitors by the end of 2023, President William Ruto announced on October 29, 2023.
The move is part of Kenya's commitment to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to create a single market for goods and services across the continent. By eliminating visa requirements, Kenya hopes to boost trade and tourism between African countries.
"By the end of this year, no African will be required to have a visa to come to Kenya," Ruto said in a speech at the Three Basins Climate Change Conference in Brazzaville, Congo. "Our children from this continent should not be locked in borders in Europe and also be locked in borders in Africa."
Currently, only three African countries - Benin, Seychelles, and The Gambia - offer visa-free travel to all African citizens.
The Kenyan government has said that it is taking steps to mitigate the potential for increased illegal immigration and security threats as a result of the new policy. These measures include strengthening border security and improving intelligence sharing with other African countries.
The decision to end visa requirements for African citizens has been welcomed by many Africans, who see it as a step towards greater integration and cooperation on the continent.
"This is a historic move that will make it easier for Africans to travel, trade, and invest with each other," said Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA. "It is a sign of Kenya's commitment to the AfCFTA and its belief in the power of African integration."
The move is also expected to boost Kenya's tourism sector. According to the World Tourism Organization, Africa received a record 1.67 billion international tourist arrivals in 2022, and the number is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.
By making it easier for Africans to visit Kenya, the government hopes to attract more tourists and generate more revenue for the economy.
