“Our beginnings never know our ends” Harold Pinter. A selection of different pics from the Camino, from cat houses to bat boxes and everything in between. Also swam in some lovely clear cool streams along the way

One of the great joys of doing the Camino is spontaneous friendship that sort of becomes the life and soul of the entire experience. My Camino Compadre was Elena, we met at St Jean and pretty much yomped the entire thing together; we teamed up to help each other, our journey’s similar, she unwittingly sort of became the ‘organizer’ which I will put down to having a Kenyan phone rather then any technical incompetence on my side. After about a week her blisters were so bad, that she decided to do it Crocs and on we rolled. It was great to have that sense of company and friendship as the ‘symphony of the Albergues’ (snoring) kicked off, from the sense of anticipation leaving St Jean to the wonderful slightly bewildering sense of achievement walking through the pipers at Santiago. Elena, much gracias Chiquita Bonita, we both had our own Camino, thank you for your friendship on mine. Buen Camino for Life

Them there these of feet of mine have done me proud. Day in, day out, a month on the road, 800 kms, and still going strong. Never truer then on the Camino, look after them and they will get you home.

Yesterday we drove up through Tsavo East, crossed the road at Manyani, where in fact Lugard used the underpass and then crossed the Nairobi Mombasa highway. Richard Moller, James Lewin and I. James took these amazing pics with a bit of help from me. What Lugard will have seen and experienced in his fifty odd years.

And did those feet in ancient times walk upon a dry and dusty land, Bring me my bow of burning gold, bring me arrows of desire. With apologies to WB. Just back from a trip to Botswana where we spent sometime with the San on the Makgadikgadi which roughy translates to the ‘great big nothing’ . Oh what we could learn from the original inhabitants of this not so green and pleasant land

Walking down the south bank this evening, one can’t help but to pause and wonder of all the history, the footfall, the Thames, a view and walk that I never tire of doing especially at night when one almost has it to one’s self #

Dzangai Bai, in the heart (and the heat) of the Sangha Reserve in Central African Republic. OMG… what a privilege to have this place to ourselves, it’s one of if not THE most important Bai in this region especially for the forest elephants of which there is over a 130 in this vista, including forest buffalo and western bongo. Throw in the African Grey Parrots and Green Pigeons galore and you’ve got an amazing, incredible all day experience

Central African Republic… modus operandi on the Sangha River, which flows into the mighty Congo. Hard to believe there was once a river transport system that went from Brazzaville to Banqui. We’ve just spent a week exploring and enjoying the D’zangai Bai ecosystem, you gotta see it to believe it…

Fishy, fishy, fishy, some incredible snorkeling to be had the last few weeks in the Galapagos, schools of Yellow-tailed Surgeon fish, aptly named as they have a blade like spine in the tail that points outwards when bent, these are used for defense and as sharp as a surgeons scalpel, hence the name. thank you Rafa
