Exciting news! Elephant TWINS have been born in Samburu National Reserve! 🐘 🐘

During the weekend, Bora from the Winds family gave birth to TWO elephant calves. Here is the pair (male and female) at around a day old, exploring their surroundings. Twin births like this are very rare - in fact, we haven’t seen twins in the park in decades!

The iconic African wild dog used to roam across 39 countries, and number in the hundreds of thousands. Capable of running at 44mph/70kmh and travelling up to 31miles/50km in a single day the African wild dog is one of the most adaptable animal survivors on the planet, but they face an uncertain future. Today there are fewer than 7,000 wild dogs left, found in 14 countries throughout Africa.

It is easy to confuse these mottled, big-eared animals for hyenas—but they’re distinctly different creatures. While hyenas are more closely related to cats, African wild dogs share a distant common ancestor with wolves, dingoes and coyotes. They’re intensely social, have strong family bonds, hunt together, and take care of one another’s pups. They can live in packs of more than 30 dogs that are ruled by an ‘alpha’ male and female pair.

Sadly, being regarded as pests, African wild dogs are hunted indiscriminately. Like so many other wild species struggling to survive in our modern world, they are classified as threatened on the IUCN’s Red List. We must act now and do all that we can to prevent the extinction of these incredible animals.
