........The mara river wildebeest-crossing stampede causes such a melee that the splash on the water is heard from the opposite bank. Thousands and thousands pour into the water and swim as fast as possible to the opposite bank. Crocodiles start to drift along the edges of the swimming wildebeest and zebra’s profile. Some are grabbed and drowned but most make their way across only to be met by the welcoming committee of lions and leopards on the opposite bank. It sure does not pay to be the first arrivals in a wildebeest migration. Many die here but even more survive to come back a year later, sure that their survival on the next exodus will be guaranteed by their sheer numbers…..until it’s your turn to take one for the team…and its curtains! 3 Days Masai Mara Budget Camping Safari Itinerary

Day - 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara

Your 3 days Masai Mara budget camping safari departs from Nairobi to Masai Mara game reserve at 0800hrs with a pick up from our driver. We will drive through kikuyu central highlands and into the Great Rift Valley escarpment. We will make a short stopover at the viewpoint to look down into the Great Rift Valley.

Continue south westwards passing through Narok town and into the Loita plains of the Masai Mara. We will come face to face with the greatest abundance of wildlife in Mara. There are more than 5 million animals in the Mara in an area of 1510 sqkm.

The Masai Mara game reserve is known for the big five animals including lions, buffalos, leopards, elephants and rhinos. There are also hundreds of other animals including giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, gazelles, zebras, hyenas, cheetahs, baboons and many more.

Check into the Miti Mingi budget tented camp and enjoy your lunch. We will then go for an evening game drive at 1600hrs until dusk. This is our best chance to see the lion prides of Masai Mara, the buffalos, elephants and the leopards.

Return to camp after the game drive and enjoy a warm dinner and overnight.

Day - 2: Masai Mara

Your day 2 in a Masai Mara budget camping safari will start with an early breakfast and followed by a full day game viewing in the park. You will depart the camp with your packed picnic lunch, as this is your longest day game drive in the park.

Drive to the Mara plains and look for lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, cheetahs, rhinos and the millions of gazelles and other antelopes in the planes. Enjoy viewing the magnificent undulating plains that seem to disappear into the horizon.

The morning game drive is very cool and most animals are out and about, and easy to see. However, by 1000hrs, the sun starts to get hot and animals start to take cover under the acacia trees.
It is time to rush to the Mara River and see the crocodiles and the hippos wallowing in the waters of this great river.

After spending some time with the gaping hippos and the lazy crocodiles, it’s time to continue with our afternoon game drive or opt to visit a Masai village to learn their culture and customs. We head out of the park for the Masai villages around Sekenani gate.
Return to camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day - 3: Masai Mara – Nairobi

Wake up early this morning for an optional game drive after breakfast. You can decide to have breakfast and then go on a game drive enroute to Nairobi as you exit the park. You may also opt to go for an early game drive at 0630hrs and return to camp for a breakfast before checking out and heading out for Nairobi.

Either way you will be able to see the last of the wildlife and check out on the elusive ones before you say goodbye to the Masai Mara game reserve.

Enjoy a lunch stop enroute at Mai Mahiu town and you arrive in Nairobi at 1600hrs for a drop off in the city center or your hotel. Airport can be organized with the driver at a small fee.

Every year, around the months of July to August, thousands of humans migrate to the Mara to witness a different kind of migration. One that is so huge it's visible from space satellite imagery. That of over 1.5 million wildebeests, moving across 3,000km of savannah into the Masai Mara.

With daredevil mara river crossing creating a sort of a bottle neck, where these two different migrants meet and jostle for space on the river bank....

So who has the right of way?....the Jury is still out on this one!!!!
