Bongos usually use traditional calving grounds which is restricted to certain areas. The newborn calf lies out in hiding for a week or more, receiving short visits by the mother to suckle it. Calves grow rapidly and are quickly able to accompany their mothers in the nursery herds.

The Chalbi Desert has remarkably transformed after the recent rains. This view was photographed today by Jamie Roberts. A very rare sight indeed.

Have you met Baraka yet?

Baraka is a Swahili name that means blessings. The friendly black rhino was born in the wilds of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, but a fight and later a cataract caused him to lose vision in both eyes. This total loss of eyesight meant he could no longer survive in the wild necessitating his relocation into Morani’s 100-acre enclosure.

Baraka is tame and you can interact with him up near and personal and even feed him when you visit Ol Pejeta Conservancy at the Morani Information Centre. Baraka hopes to see you soon.

Only in such a biodiverse landscape can a lion and an elephant run into each other at dinner time. A herd of elephants was being monitored by Mara Elephant Project researchers and when they crossed into the bush, a male lion was on the other side enjoying his dinner. The elephants were undeterred and after a noisy standoff, the lion remained focused on his meal and the elephants just went around to reach the nearby watering hole.

KWS rangers in Wajir lived true to their ‘protection of the voiceless’ by rescuing two barely one-week-old cheetah siblings yesterday afternoon. The cubs, a male and a female, were extremely weak due to hunger having not nursed from 10.00 am, after they were forcibly removed from their mother by herders in a regrettable Human-Wildlife Conflict attack.
The cubs were then airlifted to Wilson Airport this morning, then transferred to the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, where they were treated and fed on bottled milk by veterinary doctors.
Their prognosis for survival is good. We wish the little cubs well and good health as they settle into their new home.

A swarm has landed on a rhino to rest.🐝🦏

In the swarm the bees are very vulnerable and generally very calm.
Her first objective is to take care of the queen and reach the chosen place to found his new home.

Sometimes they stop to rest and regroup.
This time, they found a large rhinoceros and decided that it was the ideal resting place. Luckily it didn't bother him and for a few minutes they lived together peacefully.

Nature is very wise and balanced.

A matriach has rested 🐘

We are saddened by the death of Dida who was possibly Africa’s largest female Tusker and a Matriarch residing in KWS Tsavo East National Park . She died from natural causes due to old age having lived a full life to about 60-65 years old.

Dida was a truly an iconic matriarch of Tsavo and a great repository of many decades worth of knowledge. She shepherd her herd through many seasons and challenging times. She served as both the subject to various documentaries and an iconic tourist attraction. Those who got to know her through pictures and videos as well as those who had the exquisite pleasure of meeting her in person will remember her.

Rest Well Dida.

The tawny eagle is certainly one of Africa’s most iconic birds of prey and these highly intelligent birds not only make formidable hunters but also expert scavengers.

Although large enough to bring down small mammals such as hares, they have rarely been known to tackle anything bigger. This great sighting of a tawny eagle feeding on a Thomson’s gazelle foal is most likely the result of opportunistic scavenging, with the eagle benefitting from the kill of another predator.

A perfect example of how the ecosystem of Ol Pejeta is so intricately connected and how all the species here depend on each other.

DEEP!
This photo is considered one of the best photos of the last ten years.

The reason: it brought its author ((photographer)) into depression:

The story tells: These two leopards attacked the gazelle while she was with her little children.

The gazelle had the opportunity to escape, there was the distance and could have saved her life, but she decided to give herself up to the leopards. Why ?? To give her little one a chance to run away ... Because if she had run away first, her little one couldn't follow her.

The photo is the mother's last moment, her throat in the cheetah's mouth as she watches firmly to make sure her cub has had time to take shelter.

The mother is the only person in the world who can sacrifice their life for you for free. No one like a mother!

May God protect all mothers.

Only found in Ruma National Park, the Roan Antelope is critically endangered in Kenya with a population of 15 roaming the park in Western Kenya.

Removing snares and eliminating poaching has gone a long way in protecting these magnificent herbivores.
