GORGE BARSKOON The majestic Terskey-Alatoo mountain range frames the southern coast of Issyk-Kul. On its slopes, there are many magnificent paradises with picturesque landscapes. One of them is the Barskoon gorge, about 30 kilometers long. At the very beginning of the Barskoon gorge, there is a village of the same name, in ancient times it was called Barskhan. In the past, the residence of the khan was here, and the cities of Nizhny and Veliky Barskhan were located nearby. On the slopes of the gorge, there is a carpet of green steppe vegetation. It is followed by the realm of the most beautiful Tien Shan fir trees, among which bushes of barberry, sea buckthorn, mountain ash, raspberry, currant, honeysuckle, and wild rose nestled. All this together creates not only a wonderful visual picture but also gives a unique aroma of untouched flora. It also offers a grandiose view of Lake Issyk-Kul. At an altitude of 2800 m, spruce trees are less common and are replaced by juniper trees. The cascade of waterfalls, the largest of which is 100 meters high, is a breathtaking sight. It should be noted that one of the directions of the Great Silk Road to China passed through the Barskoon gorge, bypassing the Bedel pass (height 4284 m.). Kyrgyzstan is rich in beautiful and unique places. In the southeast of the country, in the Naryn region, near the border with China, 550 km from the city of Bishkek, there is one magnificent, bewitching place - the beautiful lake Kel-Suu. It is located at an altitude of 3500 m above sea level in the spurs of the Kokshaal-Too ridge (Kok-Kyya valley, Ak-Sai river basin). On all sides, the lake is surrounded by cliffs with waterfalls. The rocks have a bizarre relief: they are dotted with grottoes, caves, and depressions. The water in Lake Kel-Suu is fresh. The color of the water is constantly changing, depending on the lighting. The water level in the lake also changes annually, up to shallowing. The lake was formed from an ancient blockage, during the collapse of a mountain range and is a winding canyon. Length - 10.5 kilometers, width - 0.5 - 2 kilometers, mirror area - 4.5 square kilometers, water volume - 338,000,000 cubic meters, depth up to 10 meters. According to a legend told by a local shepherd, the gates of Hell once opened in this place, and evil spirits climbed out, and the Almighty, seeing this, sprinkled them with holy water. Lake Kara-Suu is a mountain lake in the Jalal-Abad region, located at an altitude of 2000 meters deep in the Taktalyk ridge. Kara-Suu is remembered by tourists for its stunning blue water. The depth of the lake reaches 90 meters, and the area is 15 square kilometers. The shores of the lake are quite different. The northern shore is littered with stones and boulders and overgrown with thorny bushes, besides it is quite steep, unlike the southern one, along which a wide path passes. The area near the lake is rich in vegetation: Tien Shan spruces and birches grow here, as well as a large number of barberries, wild roses, and honeysuckle. From the shore of Kara-Suu, a magnificent view opens up to one of the peaks of the Ferghana Range - Alyampasy. The Berbers, Roma, Sinti, Bedouins, Tuaregs, Mongols, and finally the Kyrgyz… What do these ethnic groups have in common? They are #Nomads ! The word "nomad" is derived from a Greek phrase that means "to roam in search of pasture." As the name speaks for itself, nomads do not have a fixed residence and move around as the seasons change. They are on the go in search of food, water, and suitable feeding areas for their livestock. Today, 30-40 million nomads or semi-nomads live all over the world. For any nomad, the capacity to move fast and effortlessly is crucial. The #yurt has been the #traditional housing of #CentralAsian nomads, including the Mongols, Tuvins, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and Turkmens, from ancient times. The tündük, a spherical shaped wooden structure on top of the yurt through which the smoke escapes; kanats, foldable wooden frames that make up the yurt's wall; and the uuks, long wooden poles that connect the kanats, the main body of the yurt, with the tündük. The Kyrgyz call it “Boz üy” which means “a grey house” because of the color of the felt that covers the spherical construction. In the early 1900s, #Kyrgyzstan was nomadic. The main transition of the Kyrgyz to settled life began in 1931, and in the late 1930s, the Kyrgyz tribes all over the country became settled in villages and towns as a result of collectivization. However, not all nomads adopted the new lifestyle. After gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, a huge percentage of the population returned to a nomadic lifestyle. Today, they may be found all across Kyrgyzstan's mountains. They could be considered semi-nomadic because they spend the winter in their villages. In April or May, these families travel from their village to the jailoo (highland pastures) to look after the sheep, horses, cows, and other livestock until September.
