Bayon Temple is located in the center of Angkor Thom. The temple was built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries by Jayavarman VII. The temple has four towers, each with 49 peaks and 5 entrances for 54 peaks representing the 54 Khmer provinces of the time. Some scholars think that the four faces represent the bodhisattvas of Mahayana Buddhism, while others think that they represent Jayavarman VII.
