Pchum Ben is a Cambodian 15-day religious festival, culminating in celebrations on the 15th day of the tenth month in the Khmer calendar, at the end of the Buddhist Lent, Vassa. In 2023, Pchum Bun will begin on October 13 and end on October 16.

We would like to thank the wonderful group of guests who joined our Siem Reap local food and culture tour last week. We had so much fun exploring the local market and trying some of the delicious Cambodian dishes, like Amok and grilled Prahoc. our guests also learned a lot about Cambodia's history and culture along the tour.

It was also great to see our guests interact with the local vendors and learn about the history of Cambodian cuisine.

Khmer cuisine is often said to be Thai food, but less spicy. This is partially true. Cambodian cuisine developed more than 1,000 years ago, before the local introduction of the chilli pepper by the Portuguese, or the founding of the first Thai kingdom in the 13th century. Unlike their neighbours to the west, the Khmer cooks kept chilli to the side, as a condiment rather than a central ingredient. Later Thai cooks derived many of their dishes from older Cambodian cuisine, adding chilli and other spices to create new national dishes.
