🛬 Siem Reap’s new airport set to open on 16 October 2023 🛫

Siem Reap is all set for a major upgrade! As of 16 October 2023, all flights will land at the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI). Though all the details haven’t been ironed out yet, here is everything there is to know right now:

🚕 The new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is located about 51km from Siem Reap town center. That distance will be reduced to 44km once the new expressway is finish by Q4.
🧳 We estimate the transfer time to be between 60-90 minutes.
💰 Transfer costs will increase.
❔There are still several unknowns, such as the availability of public transportation or shuttle services. There has been talks about a rail link project though nothing has been confirmed yet.
⁉️ SAI is San Marino’s old airport code. Don’t be surprised if it still comes up in a Google search!
🎫 Travelers have already begun to receive their tickets with the updated airport code.

The Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI) will start its official commercial operation on Oct. 16, after the airport flight demonstrations and tests of check-in demo, passenger boarding and landing as well as many other necessary procedures have been made successfully.

The Cambodian government is committed to conserving the archaeological site in accordance with principles set out by the World Heritage Committee.
Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, Phoeurng Sackona, led Cambodian delegates to join the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Koh Ker is a 10th-century temple complex and former capital of the Khmer Empire. It is located in Srayong Cheung village, Srayong commune, Kulen district, Preah Vihear province.
King Norodom Sihamoni yesterday thanked the World Heritge Committee for recognising Koh Ker for the cultural heritage of Cambodia.
Prime Minister Hun Manet said yesterday that September 17 will be remembered as an important historical day for the Cambodian nation.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to UNESCO who have confirmed ‘Koh Ker Temple’ as a new world heritage site. Especially, thanks to the support from those in government who submitted the request to UNESCO for listing the site,” .

(Khmer: សំបូរព្រៃគុហ៍, Sâmbor Prey Kŭh [sɑmboː prəj kuʔ]) is an archaeological site in Cambodia located in Kampong Thom Province, 30 km (19 mi) north of Kampong Thom, the provincial capital, 176 km (109 mi) east of Angkor and 206 km (128 mi) north of Phnom Penh. The now ruined complex dates back to the Pre-Angkorian Chenla Kingdom (late 6th to 9th century), established by king Isanavarman I as central royal sanctuary and capital, known then as "Isanapura" (Khmer: ឦសានបុរៈ, Eisanbŏreă In 2017, Sambor Prei K*k was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Located on the Eastern bank of the Tonle Sap lake, close to the Steung Saen River, the central part of Sambor Prei K*k is divided into three main groups. Each group has a square layout surrounded by a brick wall. The structures of the overall archaeological area were constructed at variable times: the southern and north groups (7th century) by Isanavarman I, who is considered a possible founder of the city and the central group (later date). The buildings of Sambor Prei K*k are characteristic of the Pre-Angkorean period with a simple external plan. The principal material is brick, but sandstone is also used for certain structures. Architectural features include numerous prasats, octagonal towers, shiva lingams and yonis, ponds and reservoirs, and lion sculptures. Sambor Prei K*k is located amidst mature sub-tropical forests with limited undergrowth. The area has been mined and could still contain unexploded ordnance.
