“Adventure of Science: Women and glaciers in Central Asia” hopes to lead the expedition in September 2020 and therefore opens the applications at the beginning of April (see below).

Day 1: Arrival in Bishkek, Opening event

Day 2: Hand over of gear and material, travel to Ala Archa National park, first night in tents

Day 3: Hike up to Base Camp, setting up the Base Camp

Day 4-7: Introduction into mountaineering, explore the environment, and elaborate and work on a science project.

Day 8: Take down the Base Camp, hike back to Ala Archa National Park entrance, travel back to Bishkek

Day 9: Analyze the collected data of the science projects, preparation of presentations, hand back and clean up the material, lessons learned / first impressions

Day 10: Public event: presentations of science projects by participants, presentations given by female role models in Central Asia, hand out certificates, lunch, closing

Breakfast at Almaty Backpackers

Our guests from Italy have explored the old city of Talgar, which has a name Talkhiz many years ago where they could see how local people did roads of stones and of what size their working rooms were. Not far from Talgar there's Ak bulak ski resort where they have seen a ski resort in summer and took gondola to the top. Also they tried fried and smoked trout at the trout farming close to Talgar.

Kyrgyzstan has been at the crossroads of several great civilizations as part of the Silk Road and other commercial and cultural routes.
"Kyrgyz" is believed to have been derived from the Turkic word for "forty", in reference to the forty clans of Manas, a legendary hero who united forty regional clans against the Uyghurs. Literally, Kyrgyz means We are forty.
The 40-ray sun on the flag of Kyrgyzstan is a reference to those same forty tribes and the graphical element in the sun's center depicts the wooden crown, called tunduk, of a yurt – a portable dwelling traditionally used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia.
In terms of naming conventions, the country's official name is "Kyrgyz Republic" whenever it is used in some international arenas and foreign relations. However, in the English-speaking world, the spelling Kyrgyzstan is commonly used while its former name Kirghizia is rarely used as such.

She was born in Taldykorgan😳her mom is russian and a father is german.At the age of 8 months her family moved to Germany so she grew up there😊.At home her mom speaks to her in russian because she wanted her to khow her native language😌Can you imagine a picture when mom speak to her child in russian and she was answering in german😆That's how is happened in there family😄But she must be proud of her mom because with her help she can understand russian very well,but still can not speak by the long sentences🙊In any case she has a very good pronouncing of russian words👍With Gregoire they introduced in a jorney.Like a movie story😍After so many years she have decided to visit her motherland so that's why they are here.They had some incident in Almaty,after which they moved to our hostel.We've been glad to help them in any case😌Now they left us but they will be back as soon as it's possible😉 #2018

This a short video about a trip to Charyn canyon with a small group. Started at half past 8 a.m. The car was Mitsubishi Delica (4x4)The weather was fine to have a long distance trip.We actually had a stop in Bayseit.After we reached a canyon entrance post .The sun was shining.We went down by stairs and began our walk. 20 minutes past we reached a river.There we had a lunch.On a way back we had a rest in a yurt.At 6 p.m. we reached a city!

Kazakh culture is very interesting and very diverse. Let's look at Kazakh national clothes.

For centuries, Kazakh national clothes were simple and rational. It was characterized by common forms for all segments of the population, but with a certain social and age regulations. Elegance and beautiful elements to dresses were given by fur trim, embroidery, jewelry. Traditional materials for the clothes were leather, fur, thin felt, cloth, which was produced by the local population. Clothes sewn from imported materials - silk, brocade, velvet, were a kind of measure of wealthiness of their owners. Cotton was also widely used.
Kazakhs have always valued animal skins and furs as sewing material. Coats, or so called Tons, were sewed from animal skins, and fur coats, such as Shash were sewed from furred animals, which were perfectly suitable for weather conditions in Kazakh Steppes. Outerwear was prepared from skins and furs of wild and domestic animals, according to the names of which, clothes were called: Zhanat tone - a coat of raccoon fur, Kara tulki ton - of a black fox fur, Kamshat boryk - a beaver hat, Bota ton - a coat from camel skin, Zhargak tone - from a foal skin, etc. Many kinds of clothing were made from felt. Predominantly white coat was used for its production, and thin fur from sheep's neck was considered particularly valuable.

Big Almaty Lake (Kazakh: Үлкен Алматы көлі, rus. Большое Алматинское Озеро) is natural alpine reservoir located in the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains at the height of 2511 meters above sea level, 15 km south from the center of Almaty in Kazakhstan.

Like the vast majority of lakes in the Tien Shan mountains, the lake appeared as a result from number of earthquakes. Above the lake rise the three main peaks that can be seen from the northern end of the dam: the peak of Councils (4317 m) - on south-east, the peak Ozerny (4110 m) - on the south and the peak Tourist (3954 m) - on the south-west of the lake.

On the north-west of the "Tourist" there is a peak of the crest of the Big Almaty peak in the form of pyramid with height 3681 m. Depending on the time of year, the lake changes its color from light-green to turquoise-blue.

The Tien-Shan Astronomical Observatory is located near Big Almaty Lake.

For those wishing to visit the big Almaty lake we have a 1 day group tour for 45$ per person. Included: traansportation, entrance fees, lunch box and an English speaking tour leader. It's also possible to get to a falcon show on the way back every day at 5 pm, except Mondays.

Большое Алматинское озеро (каз. Үлкен Алматы көлі) — высокогорный водоём, расположенный в Заилийском Алатау на высоте 2511 м над уровнем моря, в 15 км южнее от центра Алма-Аты.

Как и подавляющее большинство озёр Тянь-Шаня, возникло в результате землетрясений.

Над озером возвышаются три основных пика, которые можно увидеть с северного конца плотины:
пик Советов (4317 м) — на юго-востоке,
пик Озёрный (4110 м) — на юге и
пик Турист (3954 м) — к юго-западу от озера.

Северо-западнее пика «Турист» находится гребень Большого Алматинского пика, пирамида высотой З681 м. В зависимости от времени года, озеро меняет свой цвет — от светло-зелёного до бирюзово-голубого.

Астрономическая обсерватория Тянь-Шаня расположена вблизи Большого Алматинского озера.

Для желающих посетить большое алматинско озеро мы можем предложить однодневный групповой тур за 45$ с человека. В стоимость входит транспорт, входной билет, ланч бокс и англоговорящий тур-лидер. По дороге назад Вы можете заехать на соколиное шоу, которое проводится каждый день в 5 вечера, за исключением понедельников.
