Kapok tree 🌳

Ceiba pentandra is a tropical tree of the order Malvales and the family Malvaceae (previously separated in the family Bombacaceae), native to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, northern South America, and (as the variety C. pentandra var guineensis) to West Africa. A somewhat smaller variety is cultivated in southern and southeast Asia. Kapok is a name used in English speaking countries for both the tree and the cotton-like fluff obtained from its seed pods. In Spanish speaking countries the tree is commonly known as "ceiba". The tree is cultivated for the seed fibre, particularly in south-east Asia, and is also known as the Java cotton, Java kapok, silk-cotton or samauma. The common Sinhala name for the Kapok tree is 'kotta pulun' which translates to mean 'pillow cotton'. In Tamil it is known as 'panchu maram' or cotton tree. ... This may be because Kapok is predominately found in wet and intermediate zones in Sri Lanka.

Тема поездов на Шри Ланке является отдельной и очень объёмной (покупка билетов, маршруты, расписание и тд), но об этом не расскажу, ибо мы не занимались вплотную

Если коротко - поезд это одна из главных достопримечательностей и каждый обязан на нем прокатиться (это как сходить на Красную площадь в Москве:) )

Самый красочный и живописный маршрут ждёт вас на пути от Эллы до Нувара-Элии (3 часа в пути, и, да, поезда очень медленные)
Время пролетает в миг, потому что то, что происходит вокруг вводит вас в приятный транс: резкие обрывы, огромные горы, чайные плантации, даже та смена погоды которая происходит, очень поражает. Честно, это мой самый живописный маршрут на поезде ever.

Двери в поездах открытые и можно без труда сделать умопомрачительные кадры с видами, а, так как поезд едет не быстро, высовываться из вагонов, в принципе, не сильно опасно

А, и, кстати, по поводу мест - так как это самый живописный маршрут, и туристов там тьма, то не факт, что вы сидите, даже при наличии купленных мест 🙂

Bentota is a coastal town in Sri Lanka, located in the Galle District of the Southern Province, governed by an Urban Council. It is approximately 65 kilometres (40 mi) south of Colombo and 56 kilometres (35 mi) north of Galle. Bentota is situated on the southern bank of the Bentota River mouth, at an elevation of 3 metres (9.8 ft) above the sea level. The name of the town is derived from a mythical story which claims a demon named 'Bem' ruled the tota or river bank.
Bentota is a tourist attraction, with a local airport (Bentota River Airport) and a handful of world-class hotels. It is a destination for water sports. Bentota also delivers an ancient art of healing called Ayurveda. Bentota is famous for its toddy production, an alcoholic beverage made out of coconut nectar. It also has a turtle hatchery, located on Induruwa beach.

However its not only famous for its pristine beaches but also a number of exciting water sports
such as windsurfing, para-sailing and jet skiing. Thrilling river safaris along the river grant visitors access to cinnamon plantations, nature resorts and temples which are further inland. An unmissable
experience would be a visit to the residencies of two of Sri Lanka’s most famous personalities. Geoffrey Bawa,the internationally renowned Sri Lankan architect built his country estate Lunuganga
in Bentota, while his brother Bevis Bawa an equally famous landscape artist designed Brief, a 5 acre landscaped garden. Both are open to the public and a visit to the Bentota would not be complete
without a visit to Lunuganga and Brief.

Guests Comments- Doing this little safari in SL made me wanna go back to Africa and go on more safaris. I've only been on the one in Krueger, would really love to do the ones in Kenya and Tanzania. But I also wanna keep going back to Europe. And been thinking of South America, and Central America, and Canada, and of course Antartica. Jeeeeezzzzzz, not very ambitious at all Yanti!! 🙄😂 .
