Dambulla Golden Rock Temple:
This site is 2 km south of Dambulla town and 20km southwest of Sigiriya. Dambulla is a gigantic granite outcropping rising 160m above the surrounding plain. The circumference of the base of the rock is more than 1.5 km.
The present Sinhala name 'Dambulla' is believed to have been translated into the Pali language as ‘Jambukola’ by the author of the Mahavamsa. Also called 'Dambulu lena' and renamed Swarnagiriguha in an inscription at Dambulla, which belongs to King Nissanka Malla (1187- 1196 AD). According to the Galpotha slab inscription in Polonnaruwa, King Nissanka Malla had gilded 73 Buddha statues in Dambulla cave, and after it was named as 'Swarnagiri Guha', means Golden Rock cave. ..SIGIRIYA TUK TUK TOURS 🛺🛺
