Ambuluwawa Tower, Sri Lanka: The Ambuluwawa Tower is a striking architectural marvel and a significant cultural landmark located in Gampola, a town in the Kandy District of Sri Lanka. This iconic structure stands as part of the Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Complex, which is a unique site that combines religious, cultural, and environmental significance, making it a popular tourist destination in the country. # # # **Location and Accessibility**Ambuluwawa Tower is situated approximately 48 kilometers from the city of Kandy, nestled on top of the Ambuluwawa mountain. The tower itself is part of a larger biodiversity complex that is perched at an elevation of about 3,567 feet (1,087 meters) above sea level. Visitors can reach the site by a winding road that ascends through lush greenery, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including the Gampola town, rivers, mountains, and even the distant hills of the Central Highlands. # # # **Architectural Design and Structure**The Ambuluwawa Tower is a multi-religious center, symbolizing the coexistence of various religions and beliefs in Sri Lanka. The design of the tower reflects this spiritual unity, as it incorporates elements from different religious architectures, including a Buddhist stupa, a Hindu kovil, an Islamic mosque, and a Christian church. The tower itself is a tall, spiral structure that rises majestically from the peak of the mountain. It is approximately 48 meters (157 feet) tall, with a narrow, spiral staircase that winds around the exterior of the tower, leading to a viewing platform at the top. The design of the staircase is both intriguing and challenging, as it becomes narrower as one ascends, creating an exhilarating experience for those who dare to climb it. The ascent requires careful navigation, especially near the top where the space is tight and the wind can be strong. At the top of the tower, visitors are rewarded with a panoramic view that is nothing short of spectacular. On a clear day, one can see the Knuckles Mountain Range, the Pidurutalagala mountain, and even Adam's Peak, one of the most sacred mountains in Sri Lanka. # # # **Cultural and Religious Significance**The Ambuluwawa Tower is part of a larger multi-religious complex that includes a Buddhist temple, a Hindu kovil, a Christian chapel, and an Islamic mosque, all within the same vicinity. This unique combination of religious structures is a testament to Sri Lanka's rich cultural diversity and religious harmony. The tower serves as a symbol of unity, where people of different faiths can come together in peace and mutual respect. # # # **Biodiversity Complex**The Ambuluwawa Tower is located within the Ambuluwawa Biodiversity Complex, a designated environmental sanctuary. The complex covers an area of approximately 925 acres and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, some of which are endemic to Sri Lanka. The complex features a botanical garden, a serpentarium, and several nature trails that allow visitors to explore the rich biodiversity of the region. The botanical garden is home to a wide variety of plant species, including medicinal herbs, flowering plants, and rare trees. The serpentarium, a dedicated area for reptiles, showcases the diverse reptilian species found in Sri Lanka. The biodiversity complex also includes several ponds and water bodies, adding to the ecological richness of the area. # # # **Visitor Experience**A visit to Ambuluwawa Tower is not just an architectural or religious experience but also an immersive natural adventure. The journey to the top of the tower is both physically and mentally invigorating. The surrounding natural beauty, combined with the spiritual atmosphere of the place, makes it a popular spot for meditation and reflection. The site is open to visitors throughout the year, and the best time to visit is during the early morning or late afternoon when the weather is cooler, and the views are most stunning. Due to the narrowness of the staircase and the height of the tower, it is advised that visitors be cautious, especially if they have a fear of heights. The Ambuluwawa Tower is a remarkable blend of architecture, spirituality, and nature. It stands as a symbol of Sri Lanka's cultural diversity and religious harmony, offering visitors not only a breathtaking view but also a deep sense of peace and unity. Whether you are an architecture enthusiast, a nature lover, or a spiritual seeker, Ambuluwawa Tower provides a unique and enriching experience that leaves a lasting impression. Danu tours & travels

Wilpattu National Park is a national park in Sri Lanka. The unique feature of this park is the existence of "Willus" (natural lakes) – natural, sand-rimmed water basins or depressions that fill with rainwater. Located on the northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka, the park is 30 km (19 mi) west of Anuradhapura and 26 km (16 mi) north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km (110 mi) north of Colombo). The park is 1,317 km2 (508 sq mi) (131,693 hectares) in area and ranges from 0–152 m (0–499 ft) above sea level. Nearly one hundred and six lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu. Wilpattu is the largest and one of the oldest national parks in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is world-renowned for its leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) population. A remote camera survey conducted in Wilpattu from July to October 2015 by the Wilderness and Wildlife Conservation Trust captured photographs of forty-nine individual leopards in the surveyed area, the core area density of which was between that of Yala National Park's Block I and Horton Plains National Park.
