𝐊𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐊𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚
A long lost temple believed to be the name of Pratibimbarama Viharaya of Kadadora which had gone under water during the construction of the Kotmale reservoir by the Mahaweli development program in 1979. The Temple is a Buddhist temple located in the Kothmale area of Sri Lanka. It is situated in the Nuwara Eliya district.
It remains hidden from everyone yet it emerges again for some time of the year. A unique site that you should be once a life,an experience like no other. The temple is known for its beautiful architecture, scenic location, and serene atmosphere. It is considered a sacred place of worship for Buddhists in Sri Lanka and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
The temple is said to have been built during the reign of King Walagamba in the 1st century BC, Kadadora Viharaya wasn’t the only temple that went underwater years ago, as there were more than 50 temples and many villages that had also been submerged. The ruins of the temple consist of Buddha statues and other sculptures.
Its submerged most of the year and resurfaces during 2-3 months of the year during the drought season making it a rare sight. If you ate wish to visit to the temple you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding hills and reservoir, and can also participate in traditional Buddhist ceremonies and rituals.
