" Pungudutivu "

The old Kachcheri or governor's bungalow must have been a beautiful building. Unfortunately the civil war in Sri Lanka destroyed it and only its ruins stand to show us the disastrous consequences of war.

Point Pedro (Tamil: பருத்தித்துறை ) is a town, located in Jaffna District, Sri Lanka, at the northernmost point of the island.

Cotton is produced around Point Pedro in the fertile calcic red latosol soils. The eastern coast of Point Pedro forms a 3 mile wide, 20 mile long beach with sand dunes up to 100 feet high, extending to Thalayady. The porous soil has a water table deep underground with an estimated one billion litres of fresh water. The Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 raised the salt content of the ground water. The tsunami destroyed parts of the town and submerged some parts with seawater up to 4 feet deep.

" Keerimalai Naguleswaram temple "

Keerimalai Naguleswaram temple (Tamil: கீரிமலை நகுலேஸ்வரம் கோயில்), historically known also as the Thirutambaleswaram Kovil of Keerimalai, is a famous Hindu temple in Keerimalai, located north of Jaffna, Northern Province, Sri Lanka in the suburb of Kankesanthurai. One of the oldest shrines of the region, it is the northernmost of the island's Pancha Ishwarams of Siva, venerated by Hindus around the world from classical antiquity. Hindus believe its adjacent water tank, the Keerimalai Springs, to have curative properties, which irrigation studies attribute to high mineral content sourced from underground.

Old Dutch Church in Manalkadu 🙏

" Manalkadu lies about 12 km off Point Pedro and on the eastern cost of Jaffna Pen*sula which is popular for its sand dunes along the sea.

This sleepy fishing village lies off the general path of tourists and only travelers to this area are the pilgrims to St St. Anthony’s Church lying close to the sea in the vast sandy land. On the route to this church and just before it, lies ruins of an ancient Church built by Dutch. Only the massive walls with arch entrances remain on this impressive structure.

With part of it buried under the sand due to continued attack of sandy winds for over 100 years, this land mark is provides a unique experience for the visitor. This building has been declared as a protected archaeological monument by the department of Archaeology.

One other attraction you would also see is the replica of the 30 meter Christ the Redeemer staue of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil at the new St. Anthony’s Church."
