🐆PANTHERA PARDUS KOTIYA - SRÍ LANKAN LEOPARD🐆

Panthera pardus kotiya, commonly known as the Sri Lankan leopard, is endemic to Sri Lanka, meaning it is found nowhere else in the world. It is a subspecies of the leopard (Panthera pardus) and has adapted to the unique habitats found on the island of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan leopard is recognized as a distinct subspecies due to its genetic and morphological differences from other leopard populations.

The Sri Lankan leopard primarily inhabits various ecosystems in Sri Lanka, including dense rainforests, dry lowland forests, montane forests, and scrublands. It is estimated that the majority of Sri Lanka's leopard population is found within protected areas such as national parks and wildlife reserves.

Due to habitat loss, fragmentation, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict, the Sri Lankan leopard is classified as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Conservation efforts are underway to protect this iconic species and its habitat in Sri Lanka.

Today we would like to tell you more about cultural side of Maldives. Two most celebrated festivals are Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. To be specific, they are significant Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims around the world. Both festivals hold special religious and cultural importance, and they mark the end of important periods in the Islamic calendar. 🙏🏻

Eid al-Fitr, often referred to as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.

Eid al-Adha, known as the "Festival of Sacrifice," commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. However, God provided a ram to sacrifice instead.

Both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are occasions for Muslims to come together with family and friends, share festive meals, exchange gifts, and express gratitude for the blessings they have received. 💫

Little bit from last days with our new clients ☝🏻We took them for a village tour in Sigiriya, they had to sail on the catamaran for a while to meet locals that showed them how to prepare typical Sri Lankan delicacies and as a reward we enjoyed a fresh coconut. For sure you've heard about amazing national parks of Sri Lanka! Have you ever thought that you might see there way more than "just" elephants?

Merops orientalis is the smallest among the other four species of Bee-Eaters living in Sri Lanka. For this reason we call them ‘Little Green Bee-eater’. Male and female birds look similar.
You can find them mostly in dry zone of Sri Lanka such as Udawalawa and Yala national parks. The name already suggest us that they feed on bees. They got special ability of removing any dirt by striking the insect several times against a hard surface. These birds make soft trilling calls or short, sharp alarm calls.

Did you know that cows outnumber cars in the north of Sri Lanka? 😱

The north is a world apart from the rest of country. Fun fact is that the number of cows walking through the streets is actually larger than the number of cars on the road. Buses often have to stop along the road because sometimes they encounter massive groups of cows blocking their way. 😅

Did you know that Maldives Have Different Weekends? 🤯

Modt of the countries consider Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. Not Maldives though. They have their weekends on Friday and Saturday. This is common in Egypt, Jordan, Oman and other Islamic countries as well. If you plan to visit a local island, keep this in mind since some services might not be available on weekends and opening hours might be different 💖

We love to take our clients to popular Sri Lankan markets for them to see, taste and feel all different colours, flavours and smells of Sri Lanka. 🥰 You can always find there variety of products, but we highly reccomend to try traditional Ceylon tea, typical street food, local fruits or rich Sri Lankan spices such as: cinnamon, curry leaves, cardamon, cloves etc.

One of the most interesting markets in Sri Lanka is Pettah floating market.😳 It is estabilished on the bridge above the Beira lake.

Another one on the list is Galle Face Green Night Market. This market is popular for its variety of street food. It comes alive after sunset.

If you have been wondering if you can see famous phenomen called plancton on your vacation in Maldives the answer is yes!

💫 One of the most popular places to observe such a fantastic spectacle is Vaadloo island found in the Raa Atoll.
💫 The high season is between June and October.
💫 All you need to do is simply to stir up the water with your feet, and if plankton is there it will immediately flash you with breath-taking blue lights.

Have you heard about Batticaloa in Sri Lanka? 😍 this picturesque town is lying on an island off the eastern coast.

-It is one of the most multicultural cities since it was captured by the Portuguese in 1622, by the Dutch in 1638, and by the British in 1796. But it is also the perfect place to grasp the Tamil lifestyle!

-You can witness exemplary beaches, heritage monuments such as beautiful colorful temples and other multicultural heritage. Most famous places to visit there are Batticaloa fort, lagoon, lighthouse or hindu temples that were already mentioned.

-It is the trading centre for rice and coconuts from nearby plantations and for other agricultural products.
