- Addison Bungalow -

You can find this mind blowing incredible place when you are traveling from town Haputale through the Welimada road at the 3rd milestone. This bungalow has built in a wonderful and which has a brilliant and very attractive surrounding. Inside this bungalow architecture reminds you an old British house because of it built with many endemic architectural styles of England. The walls of this great villa are made with strong block stones and strong timber of Burma teak for the roof and floor which are imported from Malaysia. World famous Miss. Galanor was the creator of the all the "Plaster of Paris" creations of this bungalow.

Sir Thomas villers, the Englishmen who came to Sri Lanka after the British invade was the owner to build this villa in 1887, when he was arriving to Sri Lanka he only had 10 sterling pounds for his own. However he was able to build this bungalow because of his encouragement and the talent. Once the Addison Bungalow had a beautiful garden filled with different kinds of fruits like Strawberry, grapes, guava and etc. As well as the bungalow was once famous for the many kinds of orchids.

The most of the art works of this villa were done by Sri Lankan Artists, even though the architecture seems much equals to the Old England Mansion.

- Kitulgala -

Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. It is in the wet zone rain forest, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places in the country. Nevertheless, it comes alive in the first three months of the year, especially in February, the driest month. The Academy Award-winning The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge (and, supposedly, the submerged train cars that plunged into the river in the climactic scene). Kitulgala is also a base for white-water rafting, which starts a few kilometres upstream.

- Horton Plains National Park -

Horton Plains National Park is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. This plateau at an altitude of 2,100–2,300 metres (6,900–7,500 ft) is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region. This region was designated a national park in 1988. It is also a popular tourist destination and is situated 32 kilometres (20 mi) from Nuwara Eliya.

The Horton Plains are the headwaters of three major Sri Lankan rivers, the Mahaweli, Kelani, and Walawe. In Sinhala the plains are known as Maha Eliya Plains. Stone tools dating back to Balangoda culture have been found here. The plains' vegetation is grasslands interspersed with montane forest, and includes many endemic woody plants. Large herds of Sri Lankan Sambar Deer feature as typical mammals, and the park is also an Important Bird Area with many species not only endemic to Sri Lanka but restricted to the Horton Plains. Forest dieback is one of the major threats to the park and some studies suggest that it is caused by a natural phenomenon. The sheer precipice of World's End and Baker's Falls are among the tourist attractions of the park.

- Pasikuda -

Pasikuda beach although popular among locals and well known among locals isn't a place frequented by locals or foreigners. Which is a bit strange because it is one of the safest beaches for sea bathing in the east coast. Because of the lack of crowd is very clean most of the time and the nave does a good job of keeping it clean. It has the basic facilities like fresh water bathing etc as well making it an ideal place for a sea bath. You want find any shops or traders unless you go on a weekend and even if you go on a weekend you want find many people. There are no luxury hotels in the are and you have to do with small hotels or houses rented out for visitors. The prices are very reasonable and you can get it very cheaply especially if you happen to visit on week day. The closest major town is Batticaloa which is about 20-30 minutes ride in a vehicle.Although the road is a bit tricky now it is being constructed and should be finished by 2011. Lack of hotels in the Pasikuda area is one of the major reasons why tourism is not taking off in that beach but some of the land are already bought by some hotel groups so in the future we are bound to see an increase in tourism in the Pasikuda beach.

- Hill Country -

The Hill Country is exceptionally beautiful, with crystal clear waterfalls and tea plantations dotted throughout. The temperature in this region stays cool all year round, in an atmosphere of early morning Spring. Everything is green and lush and the landscape is elevated with layers of grass knolls and jagged waterfalls with dense mountain forest clinging to the upper slopes. The days drift by in the hill country in Sri Lanka with not much to do but drink tea (in abundance) and absorb the serenity and breathtaking walks and views. There are several little towns that are certainly worth a visit, such as Nuwara Eliya. There are also some majestic feats of nature to explore, namely Worlds End and Adams Peak

Main portion of the Hill country consists of a series of huge platforms – Kandy, Hatton, Uva and Balangodo & Koslandda to the south. Five main mount peaks are the Pirudutalagala (highest 8292’), Kirigalpotta, Totapola, Samanala and Namunukula but there are several gaps through which the main hill masses could be traversed through Balana and Girigesthhena from the West. Southern platform forms a very striking watered feature resembling an unbroken wall of the hill ranges in the south.

Dense forests and vast stretches of green the plantations precaously clinging to the hill slopes along with cascading water falls add exceptional beauty to the area.

The temperature is mild unlike in the low country and a welcoming contrast to the heat in Colombo and other coastal areas some of the exciting towns in the hills are Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela, Badulla etc.

“All the pathos and irony of leaving one’s youth behind is thus implicit in every joyous moment of travel: one knows that the first joy can never be recovered, and the wise traveler learns not to repeat successes but tries new places all the time.”

- Cultural Triangle -

The Central Cultural Fund was the implementing agency for the UNESCO- Sri Lanka cultural Triangle from 1980 to 1997, covering World Heritage Sites of Anuradhapura including Abhayagiriya and Jetavana Monasteries, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Dambulla and Kandy. This is the largest ever heritage conservation programme carried out in Sri Lanka and one of the most successful UNESCO sponsored programme. A campaign was launched through the UNESCO to obtain initial funds from the international community and agencies to commence the work. Following are the major activities covered by Central Cultural Fund.

Archaeological investigations
Conservation (built heritage, artifact, murals and other decorative work) scientific research related to heritage preservation
Provision of heritage information
Development of visitor infrastructure facilities at heritage sites
Site and museum presentation

To be included on the World Heritage List, sites must be of outstanding universal value and meet at least one out of ten selection criteria. These criteria are explained in the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention which, besides the text of the Convention, is the main working tool on World Heritage. The criteria are regularly revised by the Committee to reflect the evolution of the World Heritage concept itself.
