The legend of Rama – Prince of Ayodhya unswervingly confronts and overcomes fearsome odds in the form of Ravana the mighty demon king of Lanka, has left behind a rich legacy of sites and temples in the county where the most significant events of this epic took place – Lankapura – Si Lanka.

Sri Lanka is the proud custodian of more that 50 Ramayana sites from the place of Seetha Devi’s captivity to the battle fields where vast enemies clashed, to the groves of exotic herbs dropped by the Monkey God Hanuman, to the ultimate theatre of war where Lord Rama slew King Ravana. People living in the areas where great events took place remember to this day the connection of their soil to the great epic. An oath taken taken at the spot where Seetha Devi undertook “Agni Pariksha” is still considered valid in village courts or Grama Sabhas. the color of the soil in those ancient battlefields are still red today and is still surrounded by lighter colored earth. one of the airports torched by Hanuman when he came looking for Seetha Devi still has a scorched-earth look. Exotic Himalayan species are found suddenly amidst tropical Sri Lankan vegetation – the legacy of Hanuman’s heroic voyage carrying a mountain of life-restoring herbs.

After the 2019 Easter bombings and the pandemic, Sri Lanka is now facing its third major crisis: political turmoil and an economic meltdown that has left the island nation of 22 million with acute shortages of food, fuel, medicines and gas.

As a primary contributor of foreign exchange, however, the tourism sector is being prioritized for resources, and industry members are appealing to international travellers “not to forget Sri Lanka”.

Sri Lanka is experiencing its worst economic crisis in decades, but the tourism sector says inbound travel can have a significant positive impact.

The proof of the beauty of Sri Lanka is clearly evident when witnessing the array of majestic waterfalls that cascade and fall from cliff tops down deep ravines. Here are some waterfalls that can be witnessed from inside caves and behind the falls like curtains covering the outside nature. Visitors are cautioned to dive into this crevices to observe these and only with proper guidance to venture into them as the falls have a tendency to engulf and cover the area below within seconds sometimes even claiming lives as has happened at some attractive falls.

Call it coincidence, call it intuition, we shared an article yesterday about the cruelty and torture administered to elephants over the years prior to and during the world famous Perehera pageant which takes place in the beautiful city of Kandy. This is a popular tourist attraction as well as the culture and heritage of the country is vividly displayed. The news article below is of what actually happened yesterday during the final night of this colorful pageant this year where elephants ran amok for a couple of minutes. The pressing point of caparisoning these magnificent animals against there will and making they go in the procession keeps cropping up as a questionable issue..

A tense situation prevailed during the final Randoli Perahera of the historic Temple of the Tooth in Kandy when an elephant carrying the casket of the Kataragama Devalaya, ran amok last night. ..

Those majestic beasts, caparisoned and adorned, stately and dignified, yet forever held captive for the enjoyment of their human masters"
