Wells were not built. The sea mail, which had stopped for several years, resumed in the early 70s. But its course had changed slightly.

In the newly started sea mail service, trains from Madras arrived at Rameswaram, the main town of Pamban Island. But it took a long time to reach Thalai Mannar from Rameswaram town by smoke boats. Also, since the naval jetty located at Thalaimannar was destroyed, passengers and goods were taken from the boats to the train using boats. Therefore, in the newly started sea mail service, it took longer than before to go from Colombo to Madras.
End of Indo-Lankan sea mail..

In the year 1983, the Eelam war started based on the northern and eastern regions of Sri Lanka. In 1984/85, the Yal Devi train traveling from Colombo to Kankasanthuraya was blown up several times by terrorists. As such, the authorities were convinced that the continuation of the Indo-Lankan sea mail service was risky. As a result, 1985 marked the end of the Indo-Lankan sea mail service.

Found from a excavation in Sigiriya
Terracotta Apsara image !!
----------------- • ------------------

Home/foreign archaeologists treated Sigiriya the abode of a God - king ) as one of the greatest urban complexes in South Asia. According to the timeline spent in the Sigiriya project, the focus was mainly on conservation rather than excavating and highlighting the elements of that urban structure. Meanwhile there are walls - pariba - gardens - gates - ponds and castles etc. Cry. Apart from these urban elements belonging to the main construction phase of Sigiriya, several constructions belonging to pre and post-term religious phases have been excavated and preserved.
Sounds according to the reports.

These excavations showed the villages like no other, how high the ancient Lakdiwa city design was in the 5th century. Not only that, this is the only ancient city in Asia that is currently protected from this situation. The secret here is the various techniques and techniques followed in building this. Isn't it the excellence of the unique craftsmanship and expertise that the Sinhalese had after centuries and centuries?. This great creation spreads across about 100 hectares of landscaping. All technology patterns are being built according to a linear note centered at Sigiri Parvatha. What the majesty of ancient sophisticated craftsmanship in the 5th century.

●Some terracotta sculptures have been found from archeological excavations done in Sigiri. This is a terracotta apsara image found like that.

The secret Ceylon

The key pond that perfectly demonstrates Hela's engineering technology

This key well or key pond in the Jethavana temple in Anuradhapura is a place that many people do not know.

You can see several artistic designs built to collect water for various needs in Jetawana premises. Among them, the key pond has a special place.

This pond is called a key pond because the pond is shaped like a key.

This well with a step to go down to the bottom is circularly made of bricks. This key pond has been built in the shape of a key with steps tied to it so that it is possible to go down to the bottom when the water is low and to take water from the top when the water is high.

Elephant Pond is the largest pond in Anuradhapura. The pond was created to bathe the monks who lived and worked at the base of the monastery. Then this key pond is designed to make it easier for those monks to drink.

There is also an opinion that this may be the well that King Aggabodhi II built for the nearby Bodhigarh, as mentioned in the Mahavamsa.

This key pond is fed by spring water. Now this pond is not in use, but it was like this, but at that time there was good clean spring water here and no matter how many years have passed, this pond has not been filled with water.

Kadupul Flower : the priceless flower

The Kadupul flower, Sri Lanka’s native blossom, is said to be the world’s most expensive flower.
Why? Because it’s priceless!
This floral specie is so expensive; it bares no price tag.
The reason for this is because the moment it is picked, it quite often dies.
Due to its cactus roots, each and every Kadupul flower has an extremely short lifespan and is only able to survive the night, before it fades to nothing at dawn.
Despite this, the Kadupul’s fragrance is celebrated worldwide for its calming qualities. Unfortunately, the only way to experience this flower’s wonderful scent is to buy a bottle of Kadupul-inspired perfume, and unless you’re extremely lucky, most will never have the chance to revel in its soothing fragrance – which is also known as the midnight miracle.
Often nicknamed the Flower from the Heaven, the Queen of the Nightor the Dutchman’s pipe, this species of cactus is one of the most cultivated kinds in the genus.

The flower itself boasts a beautiful hue of white and yellow and grows to a maximum height of 30 centimetres.
Kadupul’s scientific name is Epiphyllum oxypetalum and asides from Sri Lanka, it can also be found in certain Indian and South American countries. Although its natural habitat is the tropical rain forest; it is now being grown in a few ornamental gardens dotted around the globe.
The flowers of the Kadupul tend to start blooming between 10pm to 11pm, prolonging this process for two hours. Once all of the buds are revealed, the flowers release a sweet fragrance and tend to bloom on a monthly basis, on full moon days.
In total, one shrub can emit an impressive 100 flowers.
Varieties

Today, you can find two species of Kadupul in Sri Lanka.
These include Epiphyllum hookeri, which boasts a series of thin Petals with leaves measuring up to two metres and Epiphyllum oxypetalum, which have broader petals measuring between 30 and 40 centimetres.
Cultivation

The cultivation of this plant varies.
All in all, the flower can be grown extremely easily as a terrestrial or a clinging plant. However, as it only blooms at certain times, it’s one of the rarest flowers in the world.
It usually resides in the forks of large trees, where decayed particles of bark and moisture offer a rich and protective base. The plant’s leaves are leathery in style, a little wider than the Vanda orchid, but not as large as those found on the cactus.
It’s an ancient myth that when the flowers of the Kadupul bloom, the Nagas come down from their heavenly homes to present florae to the Buddha on the Holy Mountain of Sri Pada.
Today, both tourists and locals flock to Sri Pada, to witness the rare sight of the Kadapul’s bloom.

- If you go to Galle, you can see the most beautiful garden in Sri Lanka... "Lost Lover's Flower Garden".

If you are going from Colombo to the highway, you can come out of Welipanna, pass Aluthgama Dargah town and take the Matugama Yatadola road to reach this park.
The park was designed by Bevis Bawa, brother of renowned architect Jefri Bawa. It is said that he made this beautiful garden and house by making art out of loneliness caused by the girl he loved suddenly leaving him.
Really beautiful and quiet place. There are many beautiful locations. You should also go and see...

The first governor lived - Doric bungalow💂🏻‍♂️🏛
Doric Bungalow

Today our story is about a past bungalow that was proud in the past and is crumbling in the present.

It is about the 'Doric Bungalow' which was built in the 1800s on the coast of Mannaram, the most breathtaking home in this country.

There is also a picture showing the original form of this palace in the photo collection.
When you see it, you think that this is the same place...
Let me first tell you the history of this Doric bungalow...

It is believed that this is the house where Mr. Frederick North, the first British governor who ruled this country, stayed.

The Greek term 'Doric' refers to having massive pilastered arches. In that sense, the name Doric bungalow has fallen...

According to Greek tradition, this building was built according to Mr. Frederick North's own design.

It is a pity that the remaining parts of the Doric mansion built on a rock on the coast of Silavathura area of Mannar are also suffering serious sea erosion.

At that time, the lower floor of this bungalow had four rooms and a large living room, and the upper floor also had a bedroom.

About this building, which was built in 1804, in the book Description of Ceylon, written by Father James Codiner in 1807, it is stated that "it is undoubtedly the most beautiful residence in this island and probably the only construction completed according to the house design technique."

Actually seeing these ruins shows that the heavy sunlight falling on Mannar must have been cooled by the huge brick walls of this huge building...

This 220-year-old building should be protected as a national heritage, but many of the western walls of the building have collapsed.

The Department of Archeology has named this as an archaeological site, but we do not see any conservation work...

This bungalow, which was called 'Alle Rani Fort' in Tamil, has not been affected by terrorist attacks...

- The highest railway station in Sri Lanka "Pattipola"

Today we are going to talk about another special highest place..
It is about Pattipola railway station which is located at the highest point in Sri Lanka....

This Pattipola railway station is located at 6204 feet / 1891 meters above the sea level...

On 23 August 1858, the construction of the railway line was started... at that time
Sir Henry Ward, who was the Governor of Ceylon, has spearheaded this.

The construction work here has been entrusted to P.L., who was a skilled engineer. It is stated that Mr. Molswat..

Do you know that Pattipola railway station is also an entrance to Hotanthanna, so there is a possibility to see plants and animals peculiar to that area around Pattipola...

If you get off the train in Pattipoli, you will see many monkeys...
Apart from that, butterflies and birds can also be seen.

All trains traveling to Badulla and Bandarawela on the Udara Railway line must stop at Pattipola railway station.

Although it is a small railway station, there is no shortage of passengers here.

Our young people who go Rail Hike love this work, don't they.. Walking along a railway line has become popular today..

A tourist information center has also been set up at the Pattipola railway station.

Between Ambewela railway station and Ohia
This Pattipola is situated...
This is the 62nd station on the main line.

You can reach Pattipola by 4-5 in the morning by taking the Badulla night train which departs from Colombo Fort at 8.00 pm.

Pattipola can be introduced to us as a railway station that brings many beautiful memories to you who are traveling....

Those who have stayed here must know that the climate of Pattipola changes from time to time.

When you wake up in the morning, the fog is so thick that you can't even see the person who is two or three meters ahead.
So go here and enjoy the beauty without destroying the environment..

Pattipola Railway Station

Pattipola Railway Station is situated between Ambewela Railway Station and Ohiya Railway Station on the Main railway line.

Alakapa Maharaja's Alakamanda

"Manoraman Duthiyalakamandacha Kuverowa Tahin Vasi"
Kuvera is the lord of wealth. He resides in the palace called Alakamanda on the Kailasa rock in the Himalayas. Its entrance is guarded by the two deities Sankhamani and Padmanidhi. Kailasa Rock rises above Manasa Lake. Mr. Paranavithana compared Sigiri Rock to Kailasakuta. Sigiriya Palace was likened to Alakamandabhavana. He likened Sigiri Lake to Manasa Lake. The ancients believe that there are frequent clouds and lightnings around the Kailasa rock in Himalayas, and as a symbol of Sigiriya, they have decorated blue female figures and golden female figures. Mr. Paranavithana, who indicated that electricity was shown from golden leaves and cloud from blue leaves, presented that these women are symbols of Meghalatas and Vi-Julatas. Paranavithana also proved that King Kasyapa lived as well as King Kuveraya of Alakapura in the "Thimbiru Vava" cell letter.

Things to do sacred Anuradhapura when Poya day...

Two hundred kilometers from Colombo, at the tip of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, lies the sacred city of Anuradhapura. Many visitors to the teardrop-shaped island will trek north to see Sigiriya, the rock fortress, but far fewer will travel the extra kilometers to Anuradhapura. Those who do are treated to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former ancient capital. Imagine a 40-kilometer stretch of land dotted with magnificent monastic monuments dating back to the third century B.C. — a city of ruins, temples, monks, and wild monkeys.

Indeed, what gives this city its allure and intrigue is its historical legacy. It is the birthplace of Sri Lankan Buddhism. Because of this, the city is at its most spectacular when visited during one of Sri Lanka’s holy Poya Days. If you come to Anuradhapura on one of these holidays, you will witness a sacred tradition — one that brings the city and culture to life.

Luckily for tourists, there are 12 (sometimes 13) Poya Days every year, with one occurring each month on the Full Moon. Each Poya Day marks a different historical event in Buddhism, from Buddha’s birth to his first visit to Sri Lanka. For monks, the days are ones of confession, when they are expected to communally recite the rules of Monastic life, known as the Patimokkha. For the Buddhist layman, a Poya Day is a public holiday across the country.

Join Pilgrims in Prayer

Visit any of the monastic monuments in Anuradhapura during a Poya Day and you will come across crowds of the faithful. These individuals are drawn here by the city’s religious importance. They can be seen everywhere — removing their shoes and sitting on the ground as they are guided in prayer by monks over a loudspeaker, air thick with incense and the hum of meditation.

When they’re not in prayer, they carry flowers, light candles, and tread barefoot, clad in pristine white garments that seem to never collect dust. Be prepared to stick out, but be graciously welcomed by the Sinhalese. If you’re particularly lucky someone may even take your hand, smile, and offer you a spot on the ground next to them.

Visit the Sri Maha Bodi Tree

One of the most popular spots for worship on Poya Days is near the 2,000-year-old Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Tree. Located in the sprawling Mahamevnāwa Park, the tree is regarded as the most sacred site in the city. The fig tree is said to have grown from a sampling from the Indian Bodhi tree under which Buddha himself attained Enlightenment. The sapling was brought to Anuradhapura in the 3rd Century B.C., by a woman named Sanghamitta, the daughter of the Indian emperor, Ashoka. The sapling was then planted by King Devanampiya Tissa, ruler of Anuradhapura at the time, an act that came to signal the beginning of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

To cope with the influx of pilgrims who visit, the tree is now guarded by a gold fence. Despite the barrier, it is still possible to glimpse the branches stretching skywards as you shuffle past, shoulder to shoulder with pilgrims.

View the Sacred Stupas

A visit to Anuradhapura is not complete without marveling at some of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful stupas. The word “stupa” is a Sanskrit word meaning “heap,” reflected in the structured dome-like shapes rising from the ground in bright whites, golds, and earthy browns. They stand immense, ancient, and solidly immovable — so much so that one cannot help but stand in awe of their magnitude.

One of Anuradhapura’s most popular stupas is the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa. Built in 140 B.C., it is one of the largest and most decorative of its kind. Its architectural beauty is not its only draw card — pilgrims also flock here because it is one of only 16 places in the country said to have been visited by Buddha himself.

Not far off is the Thuparama Stupa. Constructed by King Devanampiya Tissa soon after he introduced Buddhism to Sri Lanka, it is known as the “first Stupa” in Sri Lanka and is said to enshrine Buddha’s collarbone.

Observe the Colorful Buddhist Flag-Wrapping Ceremony

Those fortunate enough to pass through Anuradhapura on a Poya Day will witness magnificent stupas partially wrapped in the bright colors of the Buddhist flag. The Buddhist flag, with its bright white, blue, orange, yellow, and red hues, represents the colors of the aura that emanated from the Buddha when he obtained Enlightenment.

The flag-wrapping ritual begins when huge ribbons of colorful cloth are transported by lines of pilgrims to the foot of the stupa. The pilgrims hold the cloth, transporting it with care and reverence. Yet the march is also colourful and upbeat, accompanied by flag-bearers, the sound of trumpets, and the beating of drums. Eventually, monks gather the cloth and wrap it around the base of the stupa. Observing the ceremony can take a while, but it is worth it for the atmosphere, which manages to be like both a street-party and sacred ceremony.

Walk through an Ancient Forest Monastery

If, by now, you are suffering from stupa fatigue or simply feeling overwhelmed by the crowds, relief is close at hand with a visit to the much quieter and lusher Vessagiriya. This quiet parkland is the remains of an ancient forest monastery where around 500 monks lived during the 3rd century B.C. The site is scattered with large rock ruins that you are free to walk between. The rocks are actually the shelters where the Vessagiriya monks once lived. As you marvel at the ancient dwellings, you may come across peacocks and monkeys roaming the grounds. Vessagiriya is not nearly as busy as other parks in Anuradhapura, giving it a special, unspoiled quality. It’s the perfect place to end your Poya Day and contemplate just how ancient and important this city is to the Singahelse.

Three wheeler driver Sumit found the wallet worth lakhs of the young couple who came from Germany to visit Sri Pada.

There are reports from Nallathanniya area about a tricycle driver in Hatton who returned a missing wallet of a young couple who had recently come to Sripada from Germany.

An engineer from Germany, N. The couple Sebastian (27) and Laura (24), who work in a television company in the same country, recently met at 1:00 p.m. At around 03.30, Hatton arrived in the city to go to Sripada. The couple was met by Sumit, a taxi driver, at the three-wheeler parking lot near Hatton's main bus stand. The couple then started their journey in Sumit's three-wheeler towards the resort at Nallathanni. After dropping the couple, Sumit returned to Hatton, on the request of the German couple, promising to come to Nallathanniya to accompany them back to Hatton town the next morning after climbing Sripada.

Three wheel driver Sumit said,

While cleaning the tricycle, a wallet was found under the seat. When I checked it, there were 03 bank pet cards with 8000 Sri Lanka Rupees and 50 Euros. There was a photo in the wallet. It was not difficult for me to recognize it as the photograph of the German woman who went with me. At the same time, I called the number of the hotel in Nallathanni and told the owner that I found the foreign couple's wallet lying in the three-wheeler, and told them to report it to the couple and pick it up the next day. The owner of the hotel said that the couple was very upset about the loss of the wallet, but after telling the incident, they were very happy.
