Self-sufficient Travelers are not only socially conscious. They seem to be driven by some kind of an emotional zest to serve. Bonnini made this interesting observation while hosting a south African family for three days. I personally remember them in this way;
Guests [upon arrival]: By the way we have a bottle of SA wine we would like to open for you if that's okay.
Me: sure...but let's have you guys settle in first...
Guests [a day later] we could go fetch some wood for the fire...
Me: You may...! Of course...
There is much more to say about them, but in short, I ended up gifting them with a freshly harvested pumpkin from the garden because that was an easier way of saying goodbye.
