I'm Sigita, a Lithuanian who has lived in Estonia for 13 years. From this experience comes my great interest in different languages and cultures. I speak 8 languages at the moment: Lithuanian, Estonian, English, German, French, Russian, Spanish and Latvian. Curiosity has always been part of my life, I really embraced the idea of a lifetime of learning. I like to travel with my family and alone. In

the unknown city, I take the opportunity to see the spirit of the city through the eyes of a professional guide and later I walk around the city alone and perceive it myself. I love to look for the small details in architecture as well as in urban space. One of my hobbies is photography, which helps with noticing details. The desire to discover different layers of history and culture and to tell others about my discoveries led me to becoming a guide. I started in Tartu in 2014. Nowadays I am a certified guide in Setomaa and other regions of South Estonia, in the Estonian National Museum, Tartu University History Museums, Kadriorg and even in Lithuania. As a tour guide I work with English, French and German speaking groups in the Baltic States, Lithuanians in Estonia and Estonians in Lithuania. My wish and goal is to show the visitors not only the architecture and nature, but also to introduce them to the rich cultural heritage. In recent years I’ve got more and more interested in nature tourism, I have taken some nature guide and hiking tour leader courses and I am diving deeper into these topics. I like to integrate the cultural history of the place we are visiting with the nature observations in my hikes. That's why I prepare thoroughly for each excursion, looking for stories and legends that will make the experience interesting just for you. Contact me and we will put together an itinerary to suit you! Your guide Sigita

DID YOU KNOW THAT…

👉 Tallinn's Old Town is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe and is a UNESCO World Heritage site? Here's what makes it special:

✔ Authentic Medieval Architecture.
Tallinn’s Old Town is renowned for its authentic medieval architectural heritage, including narrow cobblestone streets, Gothic churches, and a city wall with defensive towers. Be sure to visit Town Hall Square, the heart of the city, bustling with cafes and restaurants.

✔ Seaplane Harbour Museum.
This unique museum is dedicated to maritime history, ships, and seaplane aviation. It's housed in a historical seaplane hangar that spans an area equivalent to two football fields. Discover the legendary submarine "Lembit," the oldest submarine displayed in a museum, along with many other fascinating interactive exhibits.

✔ Toompea Hill and Castle.
One of the most remarkable sights in Tallinn is Toompea Hill, which covers seven hectares and rises 20-30 meters above the surrounding city area. Toompea Castle is home to the Estonian Parliament and offers breathtaking views of the city.

✔ Kadriorg Palace and Park.
Kadriorg Park ranks among the most beautiful historical parks in Northern Europe. It features elements from Italian, French, and Dutch Baroque gardens due to its unique natural location. The park's history dates back to 1718 when Peter the Great ordered the construction of new summer palaces near Tallinn. The 100 hectare park includes Swan Lake and a promenade leading to Kadriorg Palace.

The meaning of borders shifts depending on whether you're a tourist, an intruder, or an immigrant.
"Borders" opens the idea of borders as a multi-layered physical and conceptual notion through perspectives like exile, discovery, migration, encounter, experimentation, and friction.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…

👉 Today, I want to introduce you to my new post series: "Did you know that?" While I’ve shared a lot about Estonia before, today I want to highlight the fascinating and unique aspects that make Estonia truly special!

I’ll start with the jewels of Estonia – the Islands. Did you know that Estonia has 2,317 islands? The largest among them are:

✔ Saaremaa Island. This island is known for its windmills, dolomite, and junipers. A few centuries ago, you could count over 800 windmills here, but sadly, only a few remain today.
✔ Hiiumaa Island. The most famous site on the island is the Tahkuna Lighthouse, constructed from cast iron parts using the Gordon system, which made it easy to transport to its location. It’s the tallest in Estonia, standing at 42.7 meters above sea level.
✔ Muhu Island. One of the most visited places on the island is Pädaste Manor. The manor once had its own mill, lime kiln, and brick factory. Today, it’s home to a luxurious spa hotel.

👉 I invite you to discover Estonia together!
For your convenience, I can create a personalized itinerary that meets your needs, complete with all necessary information and descriptions.

ESTONIA'S BOGS: CENTRAL, SOUTHWESTERN, WESTERN, NORTHERN ESTONIA

👉 Continuing our exploration of bogs, today I want to introduce you to the bogs located in Central, Southwestern, Western, and Northern Estonia. Like those in Southern Estonia, these bogs have little lakes where you can freshen up and take a swim.

Today, I'll present these bogs: 💙 Viru; 💙 Marimetsa; 💙 Loosalu; 💙 Tolkuse; 💙 Seli.

VIRU BOG
✅ Viru Bog is located 50 km from Tallinn, so it's no wonder it's a favorite spot for residents of Tallinn and the surrounding area.
✅ There's a nature trail here, which is not long, only 3.5 km, but if you extend your walk along the forest path, you can enjoy a delightful 7 km stroll.
✅ Viru Bog is renowned for its scenic wooden trails that allow visitors to explore this unique bog ecosystem comfortably. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views from the observation tower, offering a wide panoramic view of the bog.
✅ Viru Bog is situated in Lahemaa National Park, so it's pure delight to walk through the bright pine forest to the start of the trail. Lahemaa offers many more enjoyable nature trails, making it worth dedicating an entire day or even a few days to this national park.
❗Interesting❗ Many people only go to the observation tower, but they miss the bog pool, where you can swim. There's a small platform and benches by the pool, making it convenient to enter and exit, with the place to put your clothes.

MARIMETSA BOG
✅ Located in Western Estonia, in Lääne County near the village of Martna, Marimetsa Bog is part of the Marimetsa Nature Reserve, known for its rich flora and fauna.
✅ The bog features a 9 km nature trail. The first part of the trail is a gravel road running along a high-voltage power line. The trail then reaches the Marimetsa Stream and follows its banks to a rest area. From there, a boardwalk leads you into the Marimetsa Bog.
✅ There is an observation tower (7.6 meters high) at the end of the trail. ✅ The trail is equipped with toilets, benches for resting, an informational board with a map and a trail layout.
LOOSALU BOG
✅ Loosalu Bog, situated in Central Estonia in Rapla County, is one of the largest bogs in the country. It occupies a significant area characterized by raised bog landscapes with numerous peat fields, untouched by human hands.
✅ In the middle of this bog Loosalu lake is located. It is one of Estonia's largest bog lakes, covering about 10 hectares.
✅ The lake captivates with its tranquility and natural environment, frequently visited by fishing and nature enthusiasts.
❗Interesting❗ The pike and perch living in the lake are black, with the taste of peat mud.
✅ This 7.7 km nature trail connects the highest point in Western Estonia, Hiiemägi Hill (106 m), with the island of Loosalu Bog. The Loosalu nature trail is designed for visitors who wish to travel comfortably through the bog, often using boardwalks for safe passage.

TOLKUSE BOG
✅ Tolkuse Bog is located in Southwestern Estonia near the village of Häädemeeste in Pärnu County. It's adjacent to the Rannametsa-Tolkuse nature trail.
✅ The 2.2 km loop nature trail is entirely covered by a boardwalk, leading to sandy, pine-covered dunes and reaching Tornimäe, where there is a 21.57-meter high observation tower.
✅ From the tower, you get a fabulous view of the Häädemeeste coastal meadow and Pärnu Bay on one side, and Tolkuse Bog on the other. The trail descends into Tolkuse Bog from Tornimäe. The boardwalk leads to the largest bog pool and returns to the starting point.
❗Interesting❗ In June 2023, the renovation of the nature trail and observation tower was completed.

SELI BOG
✅ Seli Bog is in Central Estonia, Järva County. It's near Aegviidu, where other various nature objects and trails attract visitors and nature lovers.
✅ The boardwalk trail from Simisalu to Matsimäe is 7.5 km long and follows old trails.
✅ Ohusilla Hill, which you'll reach along the trail, features a ridge formed during the last ice age. Although Seli Lake is somewhat overgrown, it provides a perfect habitat for beavers and their dams.

The exhibition focuses on historical events marking the birth of the city, its appearance, and its inhabitants during the first hundred years. Visitors can learn about how the appearance and activities of the people have changed over 800 years.

Landscape and cityscape models, based on the latest research, hold an important place in the exhibition. For the first time, we can see what Tartu’s natural landscape looked like 10,000 years ago and understand why the city was established in its current location.

Our Story

Hello, I am Sigita, a Lithuanian living in Estonia for ten years already. I like travelling, in every city I visit I like just walking around without any particular goal. I also like learning languages and telling stories. In 2014 I decided to become a story teller in the city I lived in - in Tartu. My interest in guiding grew everyday, already a year later I took guide attestation exams in Lithuania and Viljandi County and so I started to learn more and more about Southern Estonia. I am an official guide in Tartu, Viljandi County, Põlva County, Setomaa, Lithuania (including Trakai castle). Additionally, I’m a certified guide in Estonian National museum in Lithuanian, English, French, German and Russian and in Kadrioru museum in Lithuanian and French.

I know pretty well all the Estonia and I am ready to drive you around in my car visiting the best places. You just have to choose, where you would like to go, and I’ll arrange all the rest (museums’ tickets, lunch, activities, hands-on experience, you name it).

In 2016 I started working as a tour leader in the Baltic states. I’m usually working with French and German groups, doing my best to make their visit to Baltic states memorable.

I invite you to take a walk / drive around with me and bring the best memories back home from a tour in: - Tartu - Estonia - Lithuania - Baltic States
