Great news for Luxembourg! 🇱🇺
The government represented by Minister of Finance Gilles Roth has unveiled a €500 million tax cut package and new legislative measures to boost the financial sector.

Here’s what to expect:

⭕️ 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗺𝗲: Simplified with a 50% exemption on gross annual remuneration up to €400,000 to attract highly-skilled experts.
⭕️ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁-𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘀: Conditions revised to increase the bonus to 30% of annual remuneration and 7.5% of company profits, promoting employee retention.
⭕️ 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀: Tax-exempt bonuses for employees under 30 with their first permanent job, ranging from €2,500 to €5,000.
⭕️ 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘅 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀-𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀: Up to €700 per year for paid overtime.
⭕️ 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘅 (𝗜𝗥𝗖): Lowering from 17% to 16% for large companies, and from 15% to 14% for small businesses, with an overall tax rate drop.
⭕️ 𝗘𝗧𝗙𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Actively managed ETFs will be exempt from the subscription tax starting in 2025.

📢 𝗟𝘂𝘅𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀
Starting August 1st, 2024, significant changes to the housing law will be in effect, aiming to create a more balanced rental market.

Key updates include:

🤝 𝘼𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙨: These will be split equally between tenant and landlord.

🔒 𝙍𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙂𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙚: Reduced to a maximum of two months’ rent.

🏘 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙏𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙮: Officially recognized and regulated.

💶 𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩/𝙂𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙚: At the end of a lease, if all rent and charges are paid and no damage is found, the landlord must return 50% of the rental deposit within one month. The remaining 50% is due within one month after the service charge statements are received.

The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in close cooperation with the Ministry of the Economy and the Embassy of Luxembourg in Portugal, organised an Official Trade Mission to Portugal.

The interest of Luxembourgish companies for Portugal is growing stronger every year. Despite consistent positive import/export growth between the two countries, there is still a lot of untapped collaboration potential in the fields of Sustainability, ICT, Tourism, Space, Finance, and many more.

🚨𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗙𝗲𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 🌎

Starting June 11, the cost of a Schengen visa (Tourist and Visa D) will rise due to inflation adjustments.

The new fees are:

⭕️ Adults: €90 (up from €80)
⭕️ Children: €45 (up from €40)

Despite the increase, Schengen visa fees remain competitive compared to other countries, such as the UK (€134), the US (€185), and Australia (€117).

🏠 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝘂𝘅𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗴: 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺? 🇱🇺
One pressing issue in Luxembourg is the inadequate protection tenants have against some unscrupulous landlords.

The current 2-3 month's bank guarantee system is a significant concern. This system, a guarantee on simple demand, allows landlords to request the release of the bank guarantee without tenant approval or providing any reasons.

While most landlords are honest and fair, there are too many stories of tenants leaving Luxembourg and never getting their deposits or bank guarantees back, often on fallacious grounds, even when they have returned the property in perfect condition. This practice tarnishes the country's reputation and leaves many tenants vulnerable and frustrated.

Isn't it time for Luxembourg to adopt a more robust system, similar to Switzerland's? In Switzerland, any amount released to the landlord must be substantiated with proof of damages and invoices for repairs. Such a system ensures fairness and transparency, protecting tenants from unjust financial losses.

Let's hope the new law proposal will address this critical issue, ensuring better protection for tenants and improving the overall image of Luxembourg's rental market.
