The restoration process for this nice 1973 Porsche 911T is nearing completion. This was not an easy job as the car arrived to our workshop in multiple parts. First, we got the engine, which was not in great condition and had burned out carburetors. The initial restoration process had began with work on the body somewhere in Germany, but the project was put on hold due to the facility closing its doors. The customer then came to us, and we were happy to help.
A little while after the engine, the rest of the car arrived, split into parts coming in various boxes. We completed the restoration process, including an overhaul of the suspension, engine, and carburetors. All nuts, bolts, and washers were changed to new ones. Mounts were cleaned and galvanized, just like in the factory in Stuttgart.
The engine restotation was an extensive process. All bearings were changed, and the engine block was line bored. New camshafts were made specifically for this engine, to increase the engine output, and with enlarged bearing areas so that we could also restore the factory camshaft housings and retain the factory tolerances. New pistons and cylinder sleeves were installed, slightly raising the compression ratio. To properly mount the cylinder heads, all mounting threads were restored (this is a weak point in the magnesium engine blocks), and the OEM dilavar studs were used. Everything was changed on the cylinder heads - new valve guides, springs, seats, as well as restoration of all surfaces. There is much more to say on what was done on the engine side, but let's finish by saying that we did everything necessary for the engine to work properly and for a long time, while retaining all factory tolerances!
The interior came out beautifully and will be comfortable for a long time. All the gauges were renewed, the interior was lined with Pepita seat fabric to accentuate the period correct look. Overall, the result of this work is a reliable and beautiful car.
