Late autumn sunset over the (photo taken at 15:43) What a smart move made in 1920's to recycle old German Zeppelin hangars left in Vaiņode after WWI. Bringing them to Riga and using for building market halls was certainly also a visually effective solution - this is a short story behind the graceful arches reflecting the sunset. Back in days of USSR every fifth radio supposingly was produced in Riga, particularly in a factory named VEF (State Electrotechnical Factory).
In the beautifully restored premises of the factories culture palace (venue built in 1960s, resembling an ancient roman temple), one can also visit a museum dedicated to the "top-notch" production of the historical factory. Among exhibits are not only radios and telephones, but also legendary Minox camera and more!

When in Riga, fly in to Lido for a hearty Latvian style lunch ( lido = "fly, flying" in Latvian)! Lido is one of the first private enterprises established after the collapse of socialism and gained a special popularity for the overwhelming size of portions served there. Since 1992 name Lido usually comes on local minds first when thinking about good, but quick and affordable home style food.

You should see that enthusiasm of visitors of Riga trying to find Their Bear! 140 cuties representing different countries have come together from streets of Berlin to Riga Dome square. Special thanks to Embassy of Germany for organising the Buddy Bear parade in Riga! Great way of saying "Happy Birthday, Latvia!"

Kivi in Estonian is not the same as kiwi in English although sounds very similar. Imagine a wall made of kiwis? Former brick factory "Telliskivi quarter" (kivi = rock or stone in Estonian) is where imagination meets design. A bit off the beaten track, just behind the railway station are stylish Estonian design stores and cafes to sit down for a glass of a local craft beer and a bite of a yummy (yes!) street food.

Somewhere between the Swedish gates is a spot where a voice of a ghost of a young girl can be heard saying "...but I still do love him!" She was punished for dating the wrong guy - a soldier on duty, by being built inside the walls of the sight of the romantic crime. Not everyone can hear it though...only those who themselves are truly in love !

That perfect timing when the tour is finished and everyone is safe and dry on the bus just seconds before it starts raining cats and dogs...few more inches of water and the bus could be replaced with a boat! :)

Guests from Colorado, USA first time in life tasting Real Hot Chocolate, their strategy: one glass of what is called hot chocolate at home (cocoa to be more accurate) and a cup of a thick, actually melted dark chocolate...result: overwhelming!
