Today, we celebrate one of The most important Drum Majors of History, The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

He is an icon of the Civil Rights Movement, and the most prolific of leaders. While not perfect, God used him as a vessel to lead us through some of the most tumultuous times, using “peaceful” methods to prove ourselves worthy of our basic human rights. And still, we continue to fight for those same rights…..

What would he have continued to do if he had not been slain? I often wonder. Malcom had a different opinion and he, too, was slain; so where does that leave us? What is the message to and for our people?

I believe that we continue to stand, and use our voices. I know that we need to continue to educate and fight the best way we know how. I know that we belong and are entitled to live and receive the same as all others. And I STILL PRAY that one day, all others will see us as a people and acknowledge us as the human beings that we are, deserving to be treated the same, in this world.

Thank you for your work, your words and your wisdom, Dr. King. And thank you for your ultimate sacrifice and legacy.

To the Carriers of the Flame and his family, “Thank you for keeping his dream and hope alive and for your work to continue to make the world a better place for all. God bless you!”
